A happily domesticated grizzly bear named Boog, has his perfect world turned upside down after he meets Elliot, a scrawny, fast-talking one-horned wild mule deer. They both end up stranded together in the woods during hunting season and it's up to the duo to rally all the other forest animals and turn the tables on the hunters. (imdb)

I do think kids will enjoy this, and parents will probably be more engaged with the film than some of the other recent releases of a similar ilk in the past year, but this is not a knockout by any means, not even close. In this Open Season, no one will be blown away.

Harmless, you will watch it once and it will blend in with the dozen or so other harmless CGI animal movies.

Open Season provides a surprisingly enjoyable viewing experience and has some elements to appreciate beyond the scrappy plotline. I found the reasonably quirky take on over-empasized character and environmental design interesting, coupled with the surprisingly sinister undertones and infrequent dark humour running throughout most of the film. The main characters are certainly likeable, although some of the lesser characters are very much hit and miss. Another above average, enjoyable CGI affair.

I wish Pixar would hold training sessions for these other studios.

Very dry at every corner. Can't see it working as children's entertainment, definitely not for adults...Doesn't really seem to be for anyone this film, it exists as an entity of its own. The CGI seems above average for mid 2000s, it's certainly adequate, the character design itself doesn't hand itself well to CGI at all. Personally, I like my animation to be excessively expressive, this doesn't do it for me in that regard either.

Lacks orginality and good humor. There are enough other animated movies with talking animals that are way better.

This movie wasn't bad. It had some memorable moments, but nothing too memorable. I thought it would be a little better, but o" well.I really have nothing to say about this movie. It was Ok.

Stupid and lame at times; but also charming and very funny sometimes. Has some pretty good moments. Liked it.

Just another computer animated comedy. Doesn't deliver any more or less laughs than all of its forgettable look alikes.

For kids and only for kids. I don't think kids will find it that funny. Ending is great though.

Better than I thought it would be, but it's still not on a Pixar level.

I liked the part of the story that involved a pet bear and his human where the bear eventually has to go back to the wild. That's a good concept that could conceivably have been like a dramatic Fox and the Hound type story. Sadly, most of the supporting cast (particularly Elliot) are completely insufferable, the jokes are never funny, and way too much of the story is just a boring road trip movie. Which includes a scene where two characters are literally defecating. Onscreen. God.

Did anyone else just feel that Open Season is blatantly ripping off Shrek? Replace grumpy ogre with grumpy bear and a talkative donkey with an identically characterized deer who wins over the bear and becomes his friend despite initially annoying the hell out of him. It's an OK film other than that feeling you've seen it before in another form!

Harmless enough kiddies' CGI animal adventure that you'll forget almost immediately but is short enough not to irritate. Animation-wise, it's a mixed bag. Some of the effects (water, fire, etc.) and textures are incredibly detailed and quite impressive, but much is fairly basic and even a little 'flat', the combination of these occasionally giving a noticeably disjointed feel to it all. Better than its sequel, but still nothing to write home about.

It is a well done animation, it was funny and had amusing parts. Not one of the best animation made, but it is much better that many released recently.
