It's a classic, but highly over rated. I mean the romance of the two professional dancers is rather interesting, but after the huge media onslaught and aftermath of Brokeback Mountain, do we really need another in-the-closet "gay" movie? I realize that for a good portion of it the two main leads are "out there", but really, could you be openly gay in 18th Century America? The soundtrack leaves a lot to be desired as well, just violin with no accompaniment. The giant cone is pretty cool though.

The exact representation of what happens inside my head when I get wasted on acid and Romanian flu medicine. Which happens way more often than I'd like to admit.

That's pretty cute, and also probably the first recorded rave party ever

There's an odd mischief about this short, as if all those guys involved are Thomas Edison's gimps that he keeps in the basement, forced against their will to do cutting-edge arts and crafts projects.

Both bizarre and historically significant, it's pretty awesome until some guy wanders into the shot at the end and ruins it.

There's sound in my 19th century film! It's nothing special by today's standards but still historically important and the dancing is amusing to watch.

One of the most amusing pieces of early film history. That guy wandering into frame at the end kills me.

Obviously historically important, but its also insanely weird, with the strange tune and two men tenderly dancing and the random guy shuffling into frame.

Was the guy playing the violin just really bad or was he playing like that on purpose?

Normally I'll for 50 when it's one of these experimental films, but ok, because this one experiments with sound, it'll score a 5. Didn't get a real impact on film history, though.

It's kind of funny that the first film with synchronized sound is 20 seconds of a guy abusing a violin and two men dancing. It's just funny is all.

Groundbreaking. Earliest sound film ever recorded, and the first ever entry in the Queer Cinema canon.
