The Psychic by Lucio Fulci is my favorite version of this idea, fate being proven wrong. If this had been Guy Pearce and J.K. Simmons in a trailer for half the runtime I would rate it a ninety, but I didn't care that much about Jimmy's world (per description) so its unraveling was nonconsequential. Disappointing, but not without merits for those willing to watch anything with Pearce (guilty).

This is a average drama/thriller that does not really add anything new. Guy Pearce and J.K. Simmons are both good in this film but the story is lackluster.

Good technically - sure-handed direction, nice cinematography, music, editing blah blah blah... but the script is hollow. Nothing interesting happens, the characters have no depth, some cheap plot devices are used, and generally too little is at stake. Echoes of Memento, U-Turn, Blood Simple give away what the film wants to be but cannot. There is a psychological element which just about works but in general the film is bland, unoriginal, emotionless, trite, neither here nor there.

What can you say, guy pierce, all you need to say. Questioning fate makes for good narrative if you ask me, as it can be taken in any direction imaginable. good movie for a slow/rainy day

Guy Pearce does annoying REALLY well, so he's perfect for the slick, shallow, utterly irritating main character, and this flick kind of almost works because of him. J.K. Simmons lends a touch of class to the rather tawdry proceedings that aim at artsy and fall way short.

A decent little thriller with a first rate cast. Some pretty intense moments but at times the movie felt like it would get a little thick.

The premise is silly but I really enjoyed Guy Pearce who makes it work.

"A fate-obsessive film that would nearly register as existential were it not so resolutely low-key." - Eric Henderson

Another pointless/predictable film about fate.
