Was quite surprised by the movie. Tought it would be lot worse but liked it afterall. Nice job by Yelchin , and Robert Downey Jr was good as always. Story is somewhat implausible at times , but it was funny and had some romance in it. Not a bad movie to watch.

Charlie Bartlett is one of the most unlikable characters I can remember watching. This isn't a good movie at all. Charlie is basically a pill pusher who teeters on the edges of being a sociopath. Most of the points are for RDJ who never ceases to impress.

i dug this movie, and i thought it was a fairly good plot--although also fairly weird. Robert Downey Jr. has done some really impressive work in recent years and this is included.

It's fun enough but it's jam-packed with cliches to the bursting point. Robert Downey Jr. is great and Anton Yelchin is as good as one can be in a role where he's the perfect geek. There are still humourous moments here and there making it worth watching but overall the contrived melodrama overrides everything else.

Despite its advertising, this is a completely run-of-the-mill new guy at highschool fish out of water becomes super popular, and learns a valuable lesson movie. The characters aren't even that likeable in my opinion. Still, the whole therapist/pharmacist thing is a new twist i guess, and Robert Downey Jr is good as usual. I enjoyed watching it I suppose, but it's all in all, a really average movie.

A minor underlooked gem. Although it's relatively light on conflict and easy in its solutions, I was smiling through the whole thing; it seemed quirky without forcing the issue and I rather enjoyed the character arcs. I always love it when the bully and his victim become friends. Anton Yelchin and Kat Dennings are pretty good and Robert Downey Jr. is of course the mayor of acting.

I hate Charlie Bartlett. He is a whiny, posturing little punk. I would not hang out with him, even if it meant free drugs.

It's always lovely to see the talented Anton Yelchin -- he's just adorable -- as well as Robert Downey Jr playing the character he does so well. Hope Davis was also a treat.

I thought Yelchin did a good job with a pretty poorly-developed character. The movie itself was alright. It walked this weird line between having an indie vibe to it, while still feeling totally Hollywood. It had that typical 'fish out of water' plot to it. I've seen the same sort of thing a few too many times for it to be effective. It wasn't all bad. It had a couple of interesting things to say about being a teenager. But, overall, pretty forgettable.

While Charlie Bartlett may not be an overwhelming success, it's smart enough to be worth a watch for those who are looking for something different from the generic high school movie. It has a good cast, deeper characters than you'd expect, and a plot that contains a lot of different elements, doesn't do a terribly good job at bringing them together, and feels borrowed from many other different films. But its intelligence and characters elevate it above the poor entries of the genre.

Thought that it was ultimately a charming little flick helped in great part by Robert Downey Jr. That said, could have been funnier, had a more likable main character, and brought a little more to the table. I felt that behind the charm, there wasn't much to support it.

Interesting and quirky story, a little slow-paced, but well-acted most of the time. Robert Downey Jr was great (no surprise), Anton Yelchin as the lead character was a nice surprise, but Kat Dennings could have used an acting coach. The movie's a little like Juno and similar films, where sometimes teens sometimes have their heads screwed on right more than adults do, with the added moral of this story being that you should do what you want to do, regardless of others' opinions or judgments.

I found this to be a really fun movie. Charlie was a great character and well played by Anton Yelchin and Robert Downey Jr. was fun... I found the ending to be a little disappointing. I think this movie was trying to send a message that they never really got together, but it was a lot of fun anyway.

One of those bad scripts that makes you wonder if the writer has met more than 5 people in their life. The people don't act like people, they act like movie characters. The angst seems phony, and it eventually descends into kill yourself schmaltz. A poor attempt at summoning up that John Hughes magic. I mean, in Ferris Bueller, Cameron really wanted to kill himself. You saw it and felt it. In Charlie Bartlett, the suicidal kid is a means to a punch line.

Above average indie teen movie which manages a more-or-less fresh take on the hackneyed American high school genre. Yelchin gives a winning performance as the puny-but-inventive nerd who rises to the top of the social ladder. Together with Kat Dennings they make a pretty cute screen couple. The film has its moments of humour, and a left-field tone without needing to go full Juno on us. The eventual themes of mental illness and medication are heartfelt at times, but drag on a bit towards the end.

I remember wanting to see this a lot when it came out but it always escaped me. I just didn't get any feeling of care for any of the characters. Like, he's rich but his dad's in jail? Who gives a shit. RDJ is good in this. Not my kind of teen comedy.

M: 25/100 S 30/100 Mike: Silly, obvious movie with pretty much nothing interesting going on except a big fat reference to Harold and Maude. Sophia: It was a cute movie to watch with Mike's family at Thanksgiving. It was entirely predictable but I enjoyed the Harold and Maude references.

Yet another one of those could've been so much more films. I do like that it is a high school comedy NOT about sex, which is why i rated this higher than I probably thought. But a lot of the jokes fell flat, which made the melodrama come into light more than it should've, sadly.

An underrated gem. Extremely lovable characters and a couple of the best performances I've seen from their prospective actors. The narrative of the film does kind of feel like it's been stuck together with PVA glue though, it all seems rather flexible and not what I'd call 'solid'. Tough to explain. Still, I'd highly recommend it.

After I saw the trailer, I thought this would be one hell of a hilarious movie. The first half of the movie is completely hilarious, it falls of the wagon towards end with all the drama. I guess this was an attempted Ferris Bueller. It is over all a decently entertaining movie but some what predictable.

So much of this movie is implausible, and that is what sticks out as the biggest problem with the film. I can't believe kids would line up to confess their problems to a fellow student. It is just too far fetched. The characters are generally likable, but the story is so fake and contrived that it's really hard to take away much that is positive. There are a few laughs, nice cast and a few clever scenes, but mostly it's just not that great.

It's a bit like The Adventures of Sebastian Cole, yet somehow more obnoxious. On paper, this is generally my type of film, but it's poorly executed. I'm willing to accept a lot of hokiness in these types of films, but this is too hokey even for me. Don't waste your time, even if, no, especially if you're a fan of anyone in this film.

Charlie Bartlett is a lonely, geeky, rich, highschool student decides to buy the affections of his classmates by opening up shop as the school's drug dealer. This highschool drama has all the zest of 10 Things I Hate About You and all the depth that we'd expect from an indie drama.
