I don't have the huge problems most seem to have with this film. I know when I got my "Magic Negro" it shaved at least 10 off my handicap.

"Hmm, I wonder if this magical Negro archetype can help me improve my putting. Well, seeing as this is the most predictable movie about magical Negroes and golf ever made, I suppose the answer would be 'yes.'"

I haven't seen this film for some time now, but I remember it being very dull, even with all its stars and talented director, it's still a movie about golf that isn't a comedy, making it a tough sit.

Predictable golf movie, but the whole thing has this strange calmness to it that is really contagious. I don't really know how to describe it, as the film doesn't really go anywhere and it doesn't really have a proper ending. It's just some people playing a game, getting through their own lives as best they can... and, for a little while at least, it's captivating.

A total fail, but a fun and cozy one, if you like a little golf here and there. Will Smith plays the Magical Negro, as said often on here could be a racist archetype that has been plagueing cinema to this day, or maybe not. Matt Damon to me is always a treat. Your mileage on Matt Damon may vary. My gf for instance doesn't even recognize Matt Damon on a poster. To me as one of the world's top ranked Matt Damon recognizers in both audio and video, that's crazy.

Guy plays golf, is he something other than he appears? Nice and soft movie which is worth the time watching.

The Legend of Bagger Vance has a man attempting to find himself all while playing what many characters call the "Greatest game ever made." The golf tournament doesn't matter, but our main character does. After spending two hours with him, I hoped that everything he ever wanted would come true, and had many held-breath moments over the course of the film. It does have a couple of annoying characters and Will Smith's character never quite worked, but on the whole, I quite enjoyed this film.

Old fashioned fable feels like the sort of film Redford might have starred in back in the 70s & 80s - Damon even spookily resembles him in some shots. Quite charming and handsomely produced and crafted (with a fine performance from Smith), but sluggish pacing is a liability at times, and awkward imposition of supernatural elements doesn't quite work (and although Lemmon is wonderful in his final screen appearance, his narration is not really necessary). A mixed bag to be sure but enjoyable.

It felt like a parody of an inspiring sport movie at times, it just had all the clichés. Putting aside the dubious role they gave Will Smith, even the war PTSD theme and racial issues seemed to be treated in a childish way. I guess if you want a feelgood old Disney live action-like thing praising the old south, go for it, maybe the movie just wasn't for me in spite of the calmness of it

This is a charming sports based film set in the 1930s- its less to do with sports science and more to do with changing the way you look at things, at seeing and reacting to things differently and living in the moment, in an age of pre-mindfulness. Its quite sentimental in tone, a bit too cheesy for some but it has some nice aspects and I thought it has quite an impressive cast. The musics a bit over the top cheesy in my book but I enjoyed following the story - even if you can guess what happens

"And if you're a golfer and you watch a golf film and Matt Damon swings, and it's not great, then you're not going to believe in the golf story, you're not going to believe in the rest of the film. That's the whole movie, so if that swing looks like crap, the movie's crap. " I totally agree with film critic Shia LaBeouf.

I like they way they danced! Theron & Damon danced but Wil Smith owned that movie. Another Redford lush directorial effort.

This is a movie about golf. No. It's about life. No. It's about war. No. It's about love. No. It's about a Magical Negro caddy (?????) who changes the run down life of an ex golfer who is traumatized by the war. It features the following: Great acting, great script, great.... Waaaaaaaah I can't even fake it. It's terrible. REALLY REALLY fucking terrible. The child actor is one of the WORST I've EVER seen, and the whole movie is a mess on more then one level. Stay waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay clear.

Not really impressed. Magic black man comes in and makes a washed up golfer great again? Please. The golf story itself was fun, but you can't just have a movie about golf drama, I guess. Little kid was annoying. Theron was hot, as usual. Damon was Damon. Will Smith... played a magic black man. Like Kazaam, but shorter.

It's a schmaltzy film, yes. But it's really calm and has this sort of twinkle to it that I can't help but love. Being Southern, I love the accents. And I really liked the little boy's acting.

Quite interesting, & well played in spite of the schmaltz-crap film making. It's hard enough to swallow without the endless narration, swelling soundtrack, & cute kid scenes. So the fun when it swings from giddy to preaching is obscured by the swings of deep emotional trauma & retardo composition.

My next door neighbour is called Adele. We went to school together. What's the got to do with this movie? Well, I went to school in Invergordon. Adele Invergordon, weird. Anyway, the course in this movie is a hell of a lot tougher than Invergordon's, and I'd hate to have to try and play the 18th. The film itself features some great performances, but probably isn't one that people who don't like golf would enjoy.
