The aesthetic elements here are remarkable -- visceral, unflinching gore effects combined with a quietly stylized ambiance -- but the story lacks any emotional depth and there's a few baldfaced horror-movie cliches that really take you out of the moment. But overall this isn't an experience I'll soon forget.

Gruesome, and gory. This is one of the most grim and disgusting films ever made in the horror genre. The gore is over the top, and it has scenes that dare the viewer to watch. The story is fantastic, and follows a pregnant woman being terrorized by a menancing stranger. If you're squeamish, STAY AWAY FROM THIS MOVIE! But, if you're a sucker for gore films, this is the movie for you!

Starts off fantastic, but runs out of steam about 2/3 of the way through when illogical character actions, a few ugly cheesy effects and zany, out of place moments demand too much from suspension of disbelief. I can live with that in a dumb 80's slasher, but not with something that wants me to take it this seriously. Still decent, but lots of missed potential here.

Extra gory and quite cringeworthy. But for a movie to be really scary it also has to allow suspension of disbelief. Inside does a lot better in that department than your run-of-the-mill slasher, but still not enough. Its decision to go over-the-top with splatter is detrimental. It would have been scarier if it had one less kill, a few less blood-squirting injuries. The story is a pretty regular "home invasion" thing and a mystery pretty easy to figure out.

Damn, this was brutal. There are plenty of entries in the home invasion sub-genre & I was particularly reminded of Funny Games, but this still felt unique. I was really impressed with the direction. The practical effects were also really good, with plenty of realistic-looking blood & gore. I was definitely cringing & wincing quite a bit. I thought the performances were nice & convincing, too. It's a tight, claustrophobic, visceral thriller & I recommend it, unless you're squeamish.

It occasionally succeeds in making the viewer uncomfortable, but one gets the impression the gore is used as a crutch to try and elevate what is otherwise a very dull slasher/stalker narrative involving a pregnant woman. The "horror" of childbirth will always be a strong starting foundation for a horror film because it's a goldmine for metaphor and is often squeamishly close to the heart, but "Inside" sidesteps any true psychological terror and follows the repetitive route of gore-gore-gore.

There were too many illogical details that ruined the movie for me. These are spoilers, so be warned. The bathroom door opens to the inside, but somehow the killer managed to block them from the outside. The victim tries to break through said door by holding a piece of a mirror with her bare hand and hitting the door with it. There is a towel right next to her. Knitting needles and scissors seem to be almighty weapons. The victim forgets that she has a gun right next to her and runs away from it

Tension is built up well and directing is good except for few odd choices with cgi babies. Also the music differs from your regular horror movies but it works. Biggest flaw of the movie is it's script which falls down completly after the midway mark.

Plenty violent & bloody, but just didn't do it for me. Plot was both predictable & ridiculous, CGI baby was dumb, & I didn't give a shit for any of the characters. I like the ending though, I didn't think they'd Go There & they did.

I like the sets and visuals, but as a movie they fail for good. Score was annoying, directing sucks and action did not give always logical or the best possible direction. Leading actress was good, but I pretty hated the others. And the clue in the end was not that intrigue. The title then again was meaningful, in both ways.

Gory? Very much. Even more impressive however is its comprehension of tension, its ability to build up suspense and - somehow - maintain that same suspense through several gross knife, hairpin and, most commonly, knife stabbings and penetrations.

From the beginning car accident you know you're in for a gore-fest of ridiculous proportions. For about a half hour the film has some excellent surreal tenseness about it but, after that, it becomes a massive exploration in utterly tasteless violence with one of the most ludicrous plots ever encountered. While no one is able to shrug off the massive bodily damage, rather they slog through multiple mortal wounds as the movie delves further and further into torture porn.

Takes all the right cues from High Tension. The makeup and gore effects are excellent and a couple of moments got me squirming; extremely visceral. It gets a little tiring in the latter stages and there are a handful of moments that are either unnecessary or just don't make any sense. Inside definitely pulls no punches and is a perhaps sickening experience that has no shortage of intensity. Definitely watch this alone in the dark if you are a single, pregnant woman.

The execution of the film deserves 100/100, but minus 5 for the stupid shots of the baby squirming inside the womb, minus 5 for the forced caesarian umbilical cord bit, and minus 20 for the fact THE PLOT WAS SO STUPID IT WAS AS IF TEENAGERS HAD CREATED IT. But then given it to increasingly talented people to write, direct, and produce.

Straightforward slasher is plenty gruesome and gory, and marked by intense, fever-pitch performances by Dalle and Paradis, but straddles an uncomfortable line between over-the-top Guignol and self-serious ugly brutality; the flecks of black humour work at first, but the film itself becomes a repetitive wallow in fairly senseless violence; Dalle is an effectively unsettling avenging angel, but the film itself is rarely particularly tense or scary. A still interesting effort.

On the Saw scale of blood-and-guts-based thrills, where 1 is rather good and 5 is absolute crap, this movie rates about a Saw 3. The concept had potential, and the lead characters were very strong, but the writers really took the story down some stupid paths. Quite a lot of nonsensical set pieces getting in the way of some decent special effects and shock value. Beatrice Dalle gives Charlotte Gainsbourg a run for her money in the creative use of scissors department.

Ugh. This film tries for a Funny Games/Hard Candy sort of class to its sadism and then completely undermines it with absolutely silly music, tasteless gore, and its complete lack of a point. Every scene is just an excuse for more violence, the protagonist is stupid, the killer a slow-moving teleporting Michael Myers ripoff, and the only thing "scary" about it is the uninspired graphic violence.

The only problem I have with New Wave of French Horror films (and really all int'l horror) is how the cops are always friendly and useless. Most horror movies would be 15 minutes long if brutal paramilitary US cops were inserted in their place. Otherwise, taut and stomach-turning flick.

Such a wasted opportunity. All the good aspects are squandered by so many poor parts - pointless jump scares, plot holes, CGI babies - and the fact that by the end it's just violence for the sake of violence. This is from someone who does hold ridiculously gory and transgressive films highly, but by the end when it becomes more and more violent, it feels like there is no point to what happens except that the directors felt they had to make it nasty without any real drive behind it

Excellent tension, this movie actually scared me at points (which most Slasher/Home Invasion movies can't make happen. Great build up and acting for this gore fest. Story is good until the last 20 minutes, and then the movie just drops the ball. The Immigrant storyline goes no where, the gore slips from Extreme to Evil Dead territory, and the twist feels not earned enough surrounded by this disappointment. It doesn't ruin the movie, but it knocks it down from being one of the greats.

AMERICAN TITLE: INSIDE. This is one of the most disgusting movies I have ever seen. The premise is fantastic--a pregnant woman is terrorized by an evil, menacing woman (whom wants to rip an unborn baby from her belly). The witch-like villain is truly eerie, however, the script appears as if it was written by a teenager. . , and the director seems to take glee in blood-drenched sets. Warning: If you DO NOT like Rob Zombie movies, I GUARANTEE you WILL NOT like this movie.

I have a lot of mixed feelings. It delivers on its reputation for sure, the story is solid, & the beautiful cinematography & haunting score are second only to the brilliant performances of Dalle & Paradis. But, a lot of it is...well, goofy. The hints of black comedy just don't work with the overall tone, some of the gore feels cartoonish, & the entire ending sequence is outright silly. It's also a touch too bleak for my liking, but that's a nitpick. If you can stomach it, this is worth seeing.

Movies are designed to tell a story, and horror films are designed to manipulate your emotions down dark roads, and when those movies tell a story of sheer repulsive madness and turn you into a knot of cringing mess, does that mean the movie has done its job well? That's why A L'Interieur is a centrepiece for me: there's not much to the story, but the world it puts you in is certainly one you pray you will never, ever visit. One of the most violent fiction experiences ever; an endurance test.

So exhaustingly tense and hammeringly brutal that we hardly have occasion to catch our breath, and it's only after the disquieting final cut to black when our heart returns to its normal rhythm that the film's repulsions and madness reverberate, similar to Dalle's hair-raising force, to trouble us. Inside is a despairingly primeval chiller that pierces you like an axe through the skull.
