This was a pretty unique take on the romantic comedy. And it's pretty cute, too. A few points I thought weren't developed enough, or a tad contrived, and there was some somewhat crude humor that wasn't needed, but overall I was entertained. And I thought that Fisher was really great in her role!

Definitely a chick flick - extremely cheesy, sappy, cutesy, sweet, etc, all that shit. Eh, I guess as far as those go though, it was decent. I like Ryan Reynolds for reasons still unbeknownst to me. Isla Fisher is hot. That little sunshine girl was terrible in this. It was predictable. Not really funny. Still, cute shit like this usually brings some measure of smile to my face. I'm just listing things that come to mind now, becaus that's about all the "review" a movie like this can merit.

As cliched rom-coms can be at times, I am a fan. That's why when a film like "Definitely, Maybe" comes around, it's a treat. Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not naive. I see how they hid the usual formula into a mystery, but that's exactly why I appreciate it. They found a new and interesting way to tell the same story. It's also an examination, though not a deep one, of why once compatible people don't always stay that way. Maybe it's a fluffy rom-com, but it definitely wants to be different.

On one side I'm a complete sucker for these RomComs. The good ones anyway... This one was one of the better ones - not all romance and things going the right way. It had nice characters, and a nice cast. I liked the chemistry between Reynolds and all the female actresses. All of them different. It could have been even better, had it not been for Breslins, at times, too clever ten year old character. - Good.

This guy decides to tell his (fairly young) daughter about the following: Her mother cheating on him, her mother having a lesbian affair, him planning to propose to several other women, and a few other similarly messed up things. In response to this, the daughter decides not to be traumatized but instead tells him to go hit on a woman he hasn't seen in years. This movie is super creepy.

A bit of a revelation for me. I despise Ryan Reynolds but I found his performance incredibly moving in this film. Every nuance and pause and spasm of pain on his face was so genuinely conveyed. And Isla Fisher's performance was equal to that of many past best actress Oscar nominees. Excellent.

Inert, except for Kevin Kline and Nirvana (in song and poster form), which is surprising because Reynolds, Fisher and Weisz all have the potential for decent on-screen presence, so it must be a lack of competent directing from Brooks.

A very smart love story that uses an intuitive story telling platform to turn what could have become a cliche love tale into a surprisingly deep film about the importance of analyzing one's past in order to decide how to best approach one's future.

Mediocre rom com for sure, but there are some chemistry between Ryan Reynolds and the women that surround him. there were nothing special about this movie nor its character. the movie is all about attractive cast trying so hard to be funny or dramatic at some point.and because of that it is even harder to care about the dilemma between them. though part of NYC were beautifully captured in the movie.

The sheer amount of time compression didn't do the movie any favors (aside from no one aging over a decade plus timespan) and leaves loose ends and many contrived situations. All this coated with a sugary polish and suggesting that a lifetime of cowardice and failure is justified if you manage to spawn.

Romantic comedies like this are easy to like and admire, but also easy to forget. For the audience, it's cute but not as interesting as it wants to be. Reynolds surprisingly makes for a likable lead when he's not acting like an idiot for once, and Isla Fischer probably stands out with the best performance of the ladies. Lots of familiar territory here lacking ideas and/or originality, but for an easy date night, it won't disappoint too much for the fluff that it is.

Top-notch chick flick, with a smart, funny script and charming lead performances. Kline is a treat (and gets all the best lines), but Reynolds is surprisingly likeable here after a series of empty and down-right mean-spirited "comedies". It can be a bit schmaltzy, but the premise is original enough to keep things interesting. After years and years worth of stale rom-coms, it's refreshing to see they can still be effective when they're well-made. For what it is, it is quite good.

You know what? I think I'm a chick. This type of movie has a good chance of getting to me and this one did real bad. It's smart, it's emotional, and it does have a nice twist here and there (like him being divorced right at the beginning) to balance the somewhat predictable ending. It's funny, and the characters are all well written (likeable, but flawed). Plus, Isla Fisher, noice.

This is a sweet movie. It does not pretend to be anything than it is. It is a romantic comedy with a small twist. This twist being that we get to guess who the mother of Maya is. Ryan Reynolds shows that he has what it takes to carry a romantic movie, and he is simply lovable as a single dad AND as a single guy looking for love. A sweet feel good movie.

While the plot makes a sincere attempt to be clever, sharp, and quick-witted, Definitely, Maybe never quite manages to pull everything together. Reynolds is awkwardly one-dimensional and excruciatingly obtuse; Weisz is somehow able to be charmingly intolerable; and Kline's character seems to have been mindlessly thrown into a tangled, convoluted story that becomes nothing more than a series of vignettes while the erstwhile lead never quite swims into focus. It tries and tries, but just hits par.

I'm not the biggest fan of romantic comedies but feel this is a pretty solid movie. Ryan Reynolds, the male lead, carries the story pretty well with the ensemble cast of women. And for an ensemble, each girl gets an involved enough story to flesh out their own interesting characters. Good characters and relationships, and the ensemble storyline contribute to a fresher plot than what you get with formulaic 1-on-1 romances. A complete movie for a romance.

I absolutely despised this film. Perhaps this was a product of taking a cramped overnight flight from Hawaii to Los Angeles, where sleep was impossible and stretching was forbidden. Surely being tired, cold, and hungry did not help my opinion of this abysmal film. But even had I been in perfect spirits, I suspect I would have hated this movie all the same. The plot is canned Hollywood crap, the characters are good-looking and hateable, and everything else about this movie simply infuriates me.

I was really disappointed in this movie. After all the hype about it being a "perfect valentine's gift from Hollywood", I was expecting a cute little Romantic Comedy. This, it is not. Instead, it is straight-up Romance. It's quite dry--along the lines of "When Harry Met Sally" or "Sleepless in Seattle". All that's missing is Meg Ryan. If you dont like Meg Ryan, If you don't like the forementioned movies, most likely you won't care for this flick. It's way too serious, and slow-moving.

I decided to take a chance on this movie considering it starred two actors that I have never enjoyed (Ryan Reynolds and Isla Fisher). Well after seeing this movie that feeling really hasn't changed for the good or bad. Breslin screaming out penis a lot is amusing. But here's one line from this flick that I think summed things up for me. "On average 30 people jump from the Brookly Bridge each year because of a broken heart." Its a good thing this wasn't shown on the brooklyn bridge.

By romantic comedy standards, it's actually pretty good (hence the high rating). It avoided clichés or made sure not to play them too straight, Reynolds was a believable degree of wiseass, the cast was good, and the ending showed some maturity. They did well in showing how life can take such different trajectories, and how relationships can change, but how people can still remain connected somehow.

As is often the case with rom-coms, if you can't buy the conceit that drives the romance, you're unlikely to buy the movie - not sure why Reynolds chooses to offset the panic created by Breslin's sex-ed by telling her a story that, to paraphrase THE GOLDEN GIRLS, you could catch herpes from - it's an irritating, nonsensical conceit in any event that seems to evoke the spirit of WHEN HARRY MET SALLY, but it all falls flat, especially as Reynolds shares no chemistry with his leading ladies.
