I was a little disappointed because this was like a rehash of my own childhood except the movie my friend and I recreated was Kramer vs. Kramer.

Likable, very warmhearted, and obviously important to its writer-director. You can really root for the kids and smile at their friendship. That said, it's overflowing with cliché and the various subplots mesh uncomfortably in the end.

While not as quirky as "Be Kind Rewind", the films are certainly comparable. "Son of Rambow" is charming and heart-warming There are moments of hilarity, certainly, but I wouldn't rush to call it hilarious. Direction and acting deserve particular mentions, as both are top notch. The screenplay was nothing spectacular, but it was good. This all combines to give an all-round good feel-good family flick with a fair dose of humour.

Every time I see a movie geared towards young audiences where are NO fart jokes in it I feel happy. It's one of those feel-good movies that makes the life seem full of hope. There is nothing revolutionary about it, but I bet it will make even the most hard-hearted person smile. Movie about kids, but not necessarily for kids.

It's a great movie about friendship and growing up. But what's really amazed me is that this movie don't have any cliche so typical for this kind of movies. And acting is soooooo good I could not believe. I think that this movie should be mandatory for every Hollywood director, actor and screenwriter. And every producer should be forced to watch it every time he/she have a good "family" movie idea.

A delightful romp (normally don't use these types of words to describe movies, but they fit here) about the strange circumstances that create friendships during youth. Had a little bit of a "Napoleon Dynamite" feel with the mysterious French character, and some explosions of full-on fantasy. Overall, I felt it was a bit slight and forgettable (w/ a REALLY rushed ending). I couldn't help but think, If this was a US movie with American actors and accents, would I be this charmed? No, probably not.

Really classy, slightly formulaic sometimes, but fun enough to make it an overall great movie. A must-see for both kids and adults!

I think it started off a bit slow and failed to engage me but then somewhere along the line I felt myself really getting into seeing this two kids grow up together with their love of film making. I believed both kid actors and thought it was a pretty clever flick. The ending wasn'ta surprise at all but I found it moving and adorable so I was sold on it.

Best kids movie I've seen in awhile. It was well written, as well as believable and original. The kids were fantastic and the plot paced along nicely. A worthwhile film.

The French kid doesn't work, so about a third of a the movie is a bit bumpy, but the two leads are perfect and it's fun to watch for the most part so I'm not complaining too much.

A brilliantly eccentric and creative film about childhood friendship. The comic tone of the film is spot-on - it touches on so many of the traditional English schoolboy tropes, while daringly crossing them with the futuristic worlds of home videography and New Romanticism. The result is a truly original voice. The two young actors are great both in their hilariously lo-fi action movie set pieces, and in quieter scenes with real heart. Jennings is a film-maker of detail, vision and character.

There are some good ideas here but the whole doesn't really work. It felt a little like it was originally intended to be a series and then was hacked up and reassembled into film form.

I'm all over this flick in a big bad way. It takes awhile to get going, but once it does, the development of the story of these two aspiring filmmakers (and, in a lot of ways, the development of two "enemies" into two brothers) becomes something beautiful and more. I loved how their friendship not only brought the two of them closer, but also brought them closer with their respective families (one moreso than the other). Another under-the-radar flick that's become a favorite. Glad I took a shot.

Very Good. 2 boys start a movie project for a BBC competition. This film, even with its short runtime takes a while to pull you in, but it knows where to grab you and it gets there. There is too much going on there to place in this short space. I don't cry when I watch movies, the last time I did was 15 or some years ago, but this film teared me up, not because I felt peticularly moved by any character but because it slyly reminded me that I too was once a child. Recommended.

This movie has charm bleeding out of it's heart. While I really like almost everything about it perhaps the greatest thing about this movie is that when I tell people how much I love it, they always think I'm talking about a sequel to the Rambo franchise and assume I'm making a joke.

Not funny enough to be a comedy and lacking the character and stakes to be a drama, Son of Rambow ultimately fails on both ends of the spectrum while having a premise strong enough to achieve the former at the very least.

A fairly decent flick in which you can see the early careers of Bill Milner, Will Poulter, and even Asa Butterfield. I'm not a big fan of "bad kids who smoke" which kind of threw me off and the whole French kid subplot was not needed. but otherwise, a heartwarming story of new found friendship between two kids coming from completely different backgrounds.

This is one of the most charming and endearing films I have had the pleasure of watching. The undoubted stars and primary focus of the film are two young boys who would struggle to be more different but together they manage to create such fun amongst themselves and for audiences of the film with their childish passion and excitement for amateur film-making, completely hidden from their families !!

I really enjoyed this film. It was consistently funny and had a moving (though not unexpected) ending. The main reason this is so good is Bill Milner who plays Will, a kid brought up in a very religious family which shelters him from the world. Because of this he is completely naive, but also wonderfully exuberant. He clearly has a lot of fun making the film and it is infectious. Will Poulter as Carter, the other kid, is a bit iffy at times but pulls off the important scenes well enough.

There are some effective details here and there, led by the nicely conveyed sense of freedom through creativity, but they coexist uncomfortably with weirdly stylized digressions, especially those involving a French exchange student who achieves a sort of weird reverence within the school. The friendship between the two boys at the center of the film is developed well enough to build real feeling into the conclusion, but overall the film is too much of a mess to make a lasting impression.
