I've seen much worse high-concept comedies. Standard formulas aside, Miss Congeniality is rather tastefully written and funny, directed with comedic rhythm, and Caine, Shatner and Bergen are perfectly cast. I've never been a big Bullock fan but she carries this one very well, charmingly even. And she actually looks much prettier before they give her the girlish makeover.

Maybe it was Shatner. Maybe it was Caine. Maybe it was even Bratt. But somehow the supporting cast lifts Bullock's better-than-adequate performance to another level. This is a good film, probably one of Bullock's best movies.

I remembered this being a pretty cute comedy, and was shocked by all the negative reviews by my closer TCIs (ostensibly people with good taste). So I watched it again. Admittedly it's not as good as I thought it was, but it's not bad either. There's a lot of ridiculousness, and she gets together with her sleazy colleague in the end, but I still like the movie. Needs more William Shatner, though (but most movies do).

Difficult to decipher what was satire and what was poorly aged comedy, but I was along for the so-bad-it's-good ride either way. The worst example of a movie pretending someone is ugly for sake of the plot I have ever seen.

I like Miss Congeniality. It has a great cast of actors who probably deserve better than this movie. The comedy in the movie is funny, only sometimes becoming lame. They do a good job of showing Bullock as a slob, instead of an ugly woman, so it is more believable when she becomes the beautiful pageant contestant. The story even has a nice twist that probably won't fake out too many people but it adds some drama to the whole story. I'm not sure they needed sequels to this movie but it was good.

Soft and easy-to-take star vehicle for Bullock is never terrifically inspired, relying on a solid supporting cast’s way with one-liners to pep things up, especially Caine and Bergen who are as always great fun to watch. Petrie allows the film to drag dangerously close to the two hour mark which is far too much time for this slight and timeworn premise to sustain; the “terrorist” plot itself (with MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE overtones) seems a little weighty and convoluted for such a lightweight affair.

Some members of the cast are just fun guys to have in any movie, but they fail to save this oddly paced and the often intentional "awkward moments" are just dumb. Nonetheless, it is a cute semi-genre-bender, and I guess it deserves points for that. Ugh!

Kinda funny thinking back on this now after watching it not long after it came out. I'm sure I really didn't care for it back then, but watching the trailer now, I think it wasn't too bad actually. It has a lot of goofy qualities to it, and the story might be silly as hell, but it has a certain charm to it.

yes, it's simplistic, and cliched in many ways, but there are some good laughs, and sandra bullock is likeable enough as the tough-cop turned beauty queen. what bothers me A LOT about this film is her romance with benjamin bratt. this is a sad example of the consequences of a bad sequel - not only did that film fail completely on it's own, but it actually devalued this film and made it worse.

Rewatched this because some friends wanted it on as background noise and it's marginally better than I remembered. Bullock is always most pleasing when not trying to stretch herself and Caine, Bergen and Shatner are fun in broad roles.
