Amblin'

Quite alright. It could use to be about half as long, but other than that there's something very pleasing about this. The constant background music is awesome and it's a charming and uncomplicated story told well through no dialog whatsoever. Worth a watch if only for the chance to inspect the early work of Spielberg, who shows his talent at an early stage.

Meh.

It's cute and it does have a special something that makes you see potential, but it's a tad long and not particularly complex. Seeing a washed out copy probably doesn't help it.

A cute "tone poem" sort of picture wordlessly follows two photogenic hitchhikers as they drift together for a spell. Spielberg himself pooh-poohed it as a "Pepsi commercial" a decade later, and there is a wistful pop-culture-friendly commercialized "faux-hippie" air—ah, but it works, and is great at its primary purpose of selling us on its aspiring director's style and technique. Also, the music, by the short-lived October Country, provides exactly the perfect California Sound for the occasion.

i wish i could genuinely declare this to be spielberg's greatest movie of all-time, but alas, i cannot. it's just some stupid love story that thinks itself to be pretty badass.

Em honra de Allen Daviau (1942 - 2020). Aqui já fica bem claro o porquê do Spielberg ter se tornado um dos grandes contadores de estória da Nova Hollywood, é um conto simples, mas narrativamente redondo. It's nothing special, but there are some of those lil Spielberg touches already in it (That shot of the guitar case while Dingus runs to the water, MMHMM, Jaws)
