Started off alright then after about an hour it got a bit stupid/unbelievable. The ending reminded me a lot of Disturbia.

This movie, for having Mace Windu, Night Owl, and Shepherd Book in it, really fucking sucks. The story is predictable, the acting laughable, and I just don't understand what the fuck is wrong with everyone. Can't we get over this race thing already?

More than anything else when I finished the film I thought "so what was the point?" In the end I can say that there really isn't one. The movie makes no new or interesting points, there's no real entertainment to speak of and just leaves you feeling unfulfilled. It really just feels like a terribly mediocre mix of Rear Window and Crash. While I wouldn't consider it bad, due to the acting being decent, I do consider it a completely missable film.

The trailer looked awful, but I kind of dig Neil LaBute's earlier stuff and Patrick Wilson so I gave it a shot. And oh. my. lord. This was awful, not nearly as profound or interesting as it was trying to be or could've been. What the hell happened to Neil LaBute?!!

Barely makes the grade, quite simply because it's rather preposterous and the ending falls to cliches. Just when Director Neil LaBute racks up the tension to a scorcher, Hollywood formula steps in and throws in the good ol' slasher tactics, but until then, Sam Jackson owns this movie and creates an intense and fearsome villain, while Patrick Wilson spars nicely opposite the menace.

Birthed in any shade, a pig remains a pig. Pretty darkly hilarious display of how toxic masculinity begets toxic masculinity, disintegrates society, community, hospitality and certainly rationale. Probably doesn't want me to believe Abel Turner is every cop but oh well. Sam Jackson when given this sorta stage is of course gonna demolish, plays the role like a Mafia don and a hellhound rolled together, hawk-eyed and endlessly manipulative. Perfect post 9/11 surveillance and paranoia vibe.

I can't in good conscience give this a passing grade, because in many ways, this is a terrible, terrible film. And yet, somehow, both in spite of and because of its badness, it is so compulsively watchable. The cast gathered for this awful script is actually pretty good, and they elevate the material somewhat. They do struggle at times, with unintentionally hilarious results. SLJ's character changes his motivations on the fly, but it's doesn't make him seem unpredictable, just poorly written.

Terrifying at first, but becomes unrealistic after an hour or so. For a thriller so close to real life, that's a bad thing.

A bit tedious, they could have made the movie a bit more taut and interesting had they explored a bit more of Abel Turner's (Sam L. Jackson) psyche, which hopefully may have explained some of his incongruous actions in the movie to the audience (namely, the bachelor party at his house), or they should have left it out altogether, so that the audience could at least relate to Turner at some level. Instead, Turner ends up being nothing but a raving maniac, which made the story very one-sided.

I liked Lakeview Terrace. For once, the trailer for the film actually made me want to watch it. I wasn't disappointed with what I saw. Well, okay, the ending left a little to be desired, but when the rest of the product is as strong as it is, that can easily be forgiven. Lakeview Terrace is a solid thriller, one that, despite focusing heavily on the issue of racism, doesn't cross the line when it comes to that topic.

Samuel L. Jackson steals the show in this film. The story itself is mediorcre at best and there's an unnecessary subplot involving a raging forest fire behind the area these characters live in. Predictable, but fun to watch Jackson in a steely-eyed performance.

This movie starts off bad and just gets worse. If I learnt one thing from this movie, it's that if your psycho neighbour shines a floodlight onto one side of your gigantic luxury house all night, the simplest option (sleeping on the other side of the house) is probably the best. Another stinker from the low standards actor who did "Snakes on a Plane", "Shaft", "51st State"...

It's crazy that this movie really never has a point and when it gets explained just why Jackson is so mean to his neighbors, you'll roll your eyes, but for whatever reason the chemistry between Jackson and Wilson is great and, without a doubt, the movie is entertaining. It's definitely tedious at times and can strain a little here and there but overall it's better than bad but worse than average.

This movie is essentially there to make you angry. Since this is absolutely not the reason why I go to movies, I rated this a Zero. If you don't get as emotionally involved in movies as I do, and can leave without feeling angry and used, then by all means, watch this movie. I personally felt it was very blatantly and obviously manipulative, and it was not a fun experience in any way. Oh, and this movie was already done better in Pacific Heights. Obnoxious neighbors, yeah, we get it.

Samuel L. Jackson provides in this movie one of the most ludicrous character sketches of the decade, a man who's motivations and personality gyrate wildly from scene to scene, sending the movie's tone and even genre lurching wildly every few minutes. It's bad but it's also bizarrely entertaining in its badness, and whatever it may be it's certainly not boring.

Samuel L. Jackson does a fantastic job with the material he is given (to work with); he's totally convincing as a self-righteous neighbor whom is carrying a huge chip on his shoulder. However, the script doesn't quite deliver the on-the-edge-of-your-seat tension that it's supposed to and the climax is rather mundane. It's a shame, because the characters are actually very well-defined and intriguing. The flick is "watchable", but it could have been much better.

It may seem too obvious a tool for its own good, but I did enjoy how the conflict of the characters ran parable with the wildfire simmering in this film, and the script, as basic as it is, keeps you guessing how this will play out. The ending is woeful and betrays the lead players, pissing all over a well thought set up. Sad. This is a good companion to LaBute's other film detailing the nastiness of humans 'In The Company Of Men'.
