Cutting Moments

I applaud this movie for its unflinchingly brutal attitude. Few movies have made me squirm like this one. And since I'm a sicko, that makes me love it.

There are craftier ways to explore the death of sexuality in a marriage but you can't unsee it, so I guess it gets partial credit? Spoilers: Here's my problem. Why is it acceptable to show a woman's tits getting chopped off yet not a man's dick getting chopped off? This film thinks it has balls, yet it won't even show balls. Effective in making male viewers flaccid and female viewers scream misogyny. I can easily say this is shit, with the exception of one or two memorable images.

Well meaning but dead in the water. The famous youtube clip is really, deeply effective, but the first fifteen minutes belabor the point and the last five throw it away.

I can't decide if this is genius or just sick crap. It starts off with 12 minutes of mundane drudgery with a few implied dark undertones and then descends into something that's really hard to watch. The final minute is rather creative, and really sells the creepiness. Seriously intense with an unsettling atmosphere to boot. Comes across more as a very, very dark family drama rather than a cheap gore flick aiming to shock.

The viewer’s degree of generosity will determine whether they view this as an exploration of the utter collapse of familial solidarity or as an exploitation of the same in order to make use of Tom Savini’s ability to create gory effects. The score given here reflects something of the indecisiveness of an each-way bet. The detached, cold, inhuman style is perhaps influenced by the kind of thing Todd Haynes was going for in a movie such as SAFE (1995). Watched a low-grade YouTube version.

You won't forget this movie. Maybe the realest depiction of the disintegration of the American family.

A gore production that fully deserves its name.

The most cringe-worthy horror short since Guinea Pig. But there's no demented sadist here preying on the innocent, in the normal sense. It's a sort of twisted family drama, crudely drawn, but also unpretentious, so I quite loved it.

Ugh.
