Gardens of the Night

This isn't the kind of TVish movie which is all about the parents' handwringing. God only knows why a world-famous movie star's son decided to make something like this, but here it is. On the whole it's well-made, but will ANYONE on this entire site like something this dark and this lurid besides me? This may be the most unrecommendable good film since _Bad Lieutenant_

Made me cry just a little bit.

I hated the ending.

Gillian Jacobs has never been so beautiful, or compelling. The pacing is almost at a glacial speed, but the slow methodical treatment was not boring. There is a constant and pervading sense of doom and gloom throughout the telling of this story. The most horrendous events are eluded to, so there is not much graphic violence, which does not subtract from it. Malkovich was not awful. Arnold performed his heinous role well. A rather unsatisfying ending.
