A movie made to make women cry. I was crying inside not because it made me sad, but because it was so painfuly manipulative, obviuos and urealistic. And Will Smith - such a great actor. He totaly nailed that character-with-deep-pain-inside role with his constipated chihuahua facial expression.

There's a lot good and a lot bad here. Starting with the good:I always enjoy Will Smith, I think he's a good actor, and he's good here. The pacing of the story is...off a bit maybe, but I think it's done well with well timed reveals. Now the bad: Melodramatic, sappy, manipulative all come to mind. It's so clearly trying to wring emotion out of you that it ends up failing in exactly that regard. The script is actually well done, it's just...yea, I get it, altruism tortured past, give me a break.

With too much hype and expectations for a masterpiece, This sappy, melodramatic and ultimately boring film: Seven Pounds ends up falling down flat on its face. While there's some good revealing secrets, a decent performance from fan-favorite acting veteran Will Smith and a actually good script, Seven Pounds is just a major disappointment that tries to be emotional and in the process it becomes a repetitive, formulalic and tedious movie.

At least a half hour too long and stacked with scenes that only serve to pander for awards recognition, Seven Pounds feels like watching the over indulgence that happens when an actor and director dictate what scenes make it into the final reel; while putting the narrative and pacing at the bottom of the priority list. Somewhere in there is a good film that is nearly redeemed by the ending, but ultimately suffocates under the weight of its own melodrama.

Because of the "surprise ending" it is impossible to empathise properly with the main character or care about the story. The worst crime a film can make is being forgetable and I could barely remeber this one a couple hours later.

Too much stuff going on in the beginning without any explanations and when you realise what's happening they stuff it down your throat as a surprise twist that you saw coming miles away. Rosario Dawson saves a lot with her performances.

anyone who says that they couldn't see this utterly predictable, and poorly hidden ending, is either a liar or an idiot. aside from an unfunctional plot device, it's a pretty good movie, with good acting almost all around, and an interesting and entertaining plot.

Overwrought and constantly unengaging, Seven Pounds leaves a lot to be desired throughout its sappy, obvious ploy to leave audiences crying all over the place. It's so melodramatic and so unconvincing that anyone with half a brain would be hard-pressed to be moved or even intrigued by it at all. Will Smith is obviously fine in the movie, but he's just playing one of his two stock characters--and this time it's not the sassy action hero. Better suited for those who like Lifetime, not Hollywood.

An odd experiment - without its plot device, the film wouldn't be interesting. The real forgiveness here comes from Will Smith, who delivers a strong, multi-layered performance that has him wearing many different fronts - and he is the key in holding our interest when none of what's going on makes any sense to the audience. Even if you see the head-smacker coming in the final reel (it gets obvious), you are still engaged in an interesting, imperfect, and moving film when all is 'sad' and done.

Too long, too boring, and too sappy. Seven Pounds is obviously gunning for Oscars and failing miserably. The story is unbelievable and Will Smith plays himself yet again. Rosario Dawson is good and Harrelson is fine but it's just such a sappy piece of junk. Don't see this.

Most of the negative reviews I've seen focus on the gloomy pace of the movie and predictability factor, but it isn't a happy story and it isn't trying to be an M. Night Shyamalan movie, so what's the problem here? I'm not into sappy Oscar bait movies usually, but Smith and Dawson are fantastic and really make the film. I think most people still can't get past the Fresh Prince Will Smith long enough to connect with and take him seriously. Their loss.

This plot and these characters are artifacts. They exist so that the boring 'moral' of the tale can be served. As a result, the story of this film doesn't make any sense at all. Sure, the cast appears weirdly committed and the intricate structure seems particularly eager to convince us this is some sort of profound masterpiece. We aren't fooled though. For the most past this is either boring or annoying. Too painless and too well-acted to be deemed terrible, but not recommended in any way.

I can't remember a movie ever making me as angry as Seven Pounds does. Seven Pounds portrays suicide as a just, logical, and condign method of atoning for past sins. I find that horrifically irresponsible. The telegraphed ending only exacerbates the reprehensibility of this theme. The film only has one saving grace, however ironic: that its acting, script, story, and pacing all suck enough to ensure that almost nobody watched it and fewer will remember it.

*SPOILERS* Dour and irritatingly sanctimonious drama buries its lede for far too long, expecting the audience to be enraptured by Smith's unpleasant and manipulative stalker tactics as he pursues people who may or may not want his intrusive assistance without any explanation. When the explanation does come, (atonement and salvation for an absurdly melodramatic contrivance) it feels like the worst sort of "shaggy dog" thought experiment let-down. Dull, dreary and hideously self-righteous.

People often lazily throw around the word pretentious in an effort to appear anti-snobbish, haphazardly ascribing the label to films that are anything but. However, here we have a walking, talking, living and breathing example of the term. Seven Pounds drips with mind-numbing sap and oscar-baiting pretension.

Will Smith shows a range of emotions in this well written story in wich Dawson alsow shows a really great performance. But after 15-20 minutes in the movie you can predict what is coming at the end , but however I was still very focused on the film and really liked watching it. Especially the final-scene at the end is great , emotional and just very well done. But tries to hard to be emotional , some like this others don't. Good movie. High score because of the script , Smith and Dawson.

This movie takes a long, long, long time to unravel and as a result, it really suffers. I cannot believe that anyone would like Will Smith's character. Perhaps the worst part is that there's a bizarre plot device that doesn't need to be there. Instead of thinking about the unfolding events at the end of the movie, I'm left thinking about something totally unrelated.

First I'll start off by saying this movie has the worst poster I've ever seen. Second, the movie itself is great. It's predictable but it's extroardinary to watch it all play out. Gabriele Muccino directs brilliantly, she makes it to where you can feel some of the emotion occuring on screen. Seven Pounds is definitely something to be seen. Grade: B Plus

The characters in this film are well texturized, especially Dawson's character, who by the way turned in a fantastic performance. It's like The Machinist , a movie about the the weight of our actions on our conscience. The story is captivating, the directing good and the performances are great. unlike the Machinist its quite predictable and in a movie like this which tries to shock and reveal the truth in the finale it's dissappointing. The Machinist is far supperior , more darker and mysterious but Seven Pounds is worth to watch too.

Seven Pounds boasts good performances, but beneath the surface the plot is drastically problematic. From its notion of penance, worth and righteous action, it fails to see past its own hypocrisy, delivering a film that would be funny had it not taken itself so seriously. As it stands, the film is watchable despite its dour tone, but fails to make a pointed impact in any meaningful way.

This movie was really hard to watch. I think a better effort to introduce the story and Will Smith's character would have been much appreciated, we don't really know anything until the last 15 minutes of the film. I'm not sure if this movie was supposed to have a "twist" ending, because it was really really predictable. Like, painfully predictable. That, and the main character's motivations throughout the movie were highly questionable. He had to have been mentally unstable or something when you really get down to it, but I'm sure that wasn't what they were going for.

I like the movie and the idea, but I think the mysterious aspect until the very end of it is unnecessary and maybe counterproductive. I guess the director just thought that try to surprise was the only good way or the best way to tell the story, though he puts enough clues to have a quite close idea of what's happenning. I also recognize the melodramatic aspect but I don't think it was made so wrong and doesn't bothered me specially.

While the movie attempts to be deeply philosophical, I maybe giving it way too much credit.

Hard to judge, but I didn't hate it. It's themes will undoubtedly antagonise some, but I can't say they bothered me. I found the editing & structure messy & frustrating, but Smith's performance was not anywhere near as awful as I'd been lead to believe, & Dawson was very good. It's too melodramatic & and falls into some cliches, but occasionally is a little touching. This movies premise is a complex one to make effective on film, & simply put, Muccino isn't talented enough to pull it off.

It's become a bit too fashionable to dislike this. Yes, it's ridiculously sappy and bloated. Yes, it's far too long. But that doesn't mean it doesn't have anything going for it; good acting all around with Smith in the lead who really finds his stride in this one, some genuinely good writing with believable characters and a good (while ridiculously predictable) ending. Anyone who doesn't see the end "twist" coming a mile away needs to locate their brains. Tries too hard, but I enjoyed it.

If it took you up to the last 15 minutes of the movie to understand what was going on, then you obviously do not have an eye for detail, or you're just bad at watching movies. Don't rate a movie based on your own ignorance. Fantastic acting all around, definitely one of Will Smith's best, and that's not to mention Rosario Dawson or any of the supporting actors/actresses. This film has great pacing and is driven well by its step-by-step storytelling. It's a great film for any drama-lover.
