Notorious

Bad casting for sure, except the role of Biggie, but there is something very charming about Notorious, it may just be Biggie himself.

I'm sure the music is good but the movie doesn't do it justice.

Jesus, this is awful. And George Tillman, Jr. did such a fine job with _Men of Honor_, too. I should have seen the Hitchcock film again instead

Better than I was expecting, but still not a particularly good film. Also I think you kind of have to be a Biggie fan to really get much out of it. Does a good job of capturing the feel of the golden age of hip hop. A huge amount of the lines make subtle reference to lines in Big's songs, or notable quotes from Biggie. So if you haven't listened to pretty much all of his work then the dialog may seem kind of hokey at times. Naturi Naughton (as Li'l Kim) has a rocking body.

No-no-notorious. Jamal Woolard shines in 'Biggie Smalls' bio-pic. He spits like the real b.i.g, gives him an emotional side and makes him human, away from the spotlights. I'm not too fond about the script at certain points and some characters are flawed, like his mother and Tupac. For what it's worth, it's quite a good film. The moments that Jamal is on stage, he truly is the embodiment of the late Christopher Wallace. If you enjoy rap and hiphop this is one not to miss!

I had to watch this considering today was Biggie's birthday. Notorious is a fun little movie as it chronicles Biggie's struggles and music, but doesn't provide much other than entertainment. Woolard and Mackie are awesome but the rest of the cast kind of sucks and the direction is really annoying at points. I wish I could give this higher, but the entertainment value of the 80's-90's rap game isn't enough to make this more than average.

I learned a lot, so that is good. I guess. Not enough to start rap battles though.

The same-old self-made man myth in TV-movie cheese but there are spikes of quality - mainly during the musical performances.

I'm not a fan of rap--at all--but the rapping was the best part about this. Formulaic, uninspired biopic.

Compelling but a little thin. A cool biopic lacking focus and detail.

Feels like a made for TV drama school production. Angela Bassett is the only person in the whole piece that does any acting at all. A bit of a travesty of what should have been a much more compelling story.

I know the film is trite and dull but the subject himself, Biggie Smalls, had a very interesting journey. I admire his success at such a young age and marvel at the man's immense talent. Too bad this was the best treatment his story could get. Slightly better than a typical VH1 musician profile.

I know this is not a movie for everyone, but I did enjoy listening to some of Biggie's music, wasn't that big of a fan, but he was an intriguing person, especially with the whole East Coast West Coast thing going on. Jamal Woolard did a great job exuding the charm that Biggie had and it was cool seeing Biggie's son playing Biggie as a kid. The only person I couldn't get into was Puffy. Just didn't feel right as I was watching him. To me, he didn't feel real. Still this is a good movie.

As a fan of rap music I thought Woolard did a very good job depicting Biggie's talk, mannerisms and just the way he rapped, and I also thought DeVeaux as Lil' Kim was somewhat believable. But that's pretty much the end of the compliments. The rest of the film was all over the place, causing me to fade in and out of caring about the story. Poor job on the casting of some other the other important characters (esp 2Pac). Nice music at the end, but overall I was really disappointed.

Entertaining biopic and the film did enough to spark an interest in the subject,

Like a drunk on a bender, Notorious seems to have given up even trying to moderate its dependence on cliché.

Not as bad as I thought it would be. Jamal Woolard does a pretty good job depicting Biggie, the rest, like Tupac, Puffy, and Biggie's mom, tried too hard.

Fascinating story, but the film doesn't capture the true talent of Biggie, perhaps because Jamal Woorland raps himself. Furthermore, the acting and script could be better. Good scenes along the way, though.

In better end of the rap film genre. Actually only 8 Mile, Poetic Justice and Belly are better than this.
