So Jason takes prisoners now? Should I even ask why Jason never killed the douchebag guy or his family on previous trips to the lake house? Or why that old lady said he wanted to be left alone and then he kills some people who weren't really bothering him? Some really horrible dialogue here for a movie that wants me to take it seriously. Dump the killer in the lake? Oh good, now they'll just think you killed all those people, great job. All those boobs and only one set was even worth looking at.

Do I love this Friday remake ? ....No but I give it props for originality I loved the spin on the sleeping bag kill.....BRUTAL ! My biggest gripe is Jason kidnapping the girl and keeping her hostage my Jason would kill her or she'd kill him until the next movie came along

Slashers have always been about cheap scares and this has plenty, but it also has brutal kills which has been something Jason has been lacking, could have used a bit more gore in those kills though. The most impressive aspect is that Jason is no longer a lumbering, mindless, mega-beast, now he's a running, clever, mega-beast--definately an improvement, but not a masterpiece.

I'm not touching my Jason X review because it's one of my favorites. This though...A step down in every department except nudity (the stand out chest of the series is featured here as long as any of the chests were ever featured. When you've got lightening in a bottle, take that top off...or something). A lot of the current remakes think that we should despise every character in the film aside from the protagonist and their love interest. Or maybe I just hate young people. Maybe both. It's both.

A pretty pointless remake/reimagining. Anything which made the 1980 film interesting was discarded, and we're left with a series of people we don't know or care about being bumped off in a less than imaginative fashion. It is competently made, and there are far worse slashers out there, but this is dull, ultimately.

It's simply the first few Jason-based installments of the 80's condensed and repackaged for a new generation of fans. It's a fair enough reimagining of the Ft13 mythology, though it did feel bland at points. I suppose if I knew nothing about the series prior to this film, I would think it was awesome. However, a lot of the original plot holes that plagued the original series remain unresolved, and that seems lazy. Overall, however, it was fun, so it gets an OK score.

A great way to reboot the series, while staying true to the original in many aspects, it also changed things up a bit. I didn't mind a faster moving jason, or a smarter jason. All in all a great film, only negatives would be the movie is too dark and its hard to tell what is happening at some moments. Also, not good enough usage of the epic jason music.

This, the most accomplished Jason slasher and the best of the string of horror re-whatevers we've been bombarded with, is handsomely produced, tense and it delivers in the vital departments of inventive deaths (my favorite being the one under the pier), nudity and unlikeable teenagers. It's about as good as a 'Friday the 13th' film can be expected to be, really.

While this isn't any worse than any of the latter films from the original series, at least those movies were for good for a couple of laughs. This movie really has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. The newfound speed and agility of Jason changes the game a bit, but the charm (if you can call it that) of the older films had a lot to do with the fact that no matter how slow Jason was, he would catch you. If movies weren't so expensive these days, I would've walked out of the theatre.

No real surprises in this reboot that is actually closer to a remake of Parts 2 and 3 smashed into a single flick. Jason is a hulking machine who slices and dices his way through two groups of unlikable douchebags in a variety of gory ways. Some of the kills are definitely novel, but I can't help thinking this was an entirely unnecessary exercise.

"Generic", "bland" and "by-the-numbers" all seem like understatements. This is an ABC-slasher for the new generation with loud thumping noises, (lots of) big, bouncy titties and editing so rapid, you miss half of the shots. Yeah, there's gore - but what's the point when you cut away from it after 0,2 sec? I'll take the ridiculously funny "Jason X" or the campy oldschool charm of "Part 8: Jason Takes Manhattan" any day!

The first few movies summarized and made into a very cliched slasher. I thought the original group was annoying... before they were killed off and replaced with an even more annoying group. I can only assume Michael Bay was behind the decision to flash titties whenever possible; at one point, Jason stabs a girl then pulls her out of the water to show off her boobs one last time. The only redeeming features are Jason's slightly more complex characterization, and the fact that this isn't Jason X.

I was never impressed by the original and this one was about as enthralling, well written and interesting. Bunch of kids, who talk to themselves excessively beyond all reason, do things their parents wouldn't want them to and get systematically murdered by a super human psycho. This is a terrible movie in every sense of the word.

Quite an effective remake. What do you expect from a Friday movie? The kills are brutal, the atmosphere is pretty decent, has some actual funny dialogue and the functional nudity gets two bloody thumbs up. It won't reinvent the genre, but it's a fun ride for the not tóó critical viewer. Making Jason more cunning was a good move too.

For 2009 so far, this impossibly generic slasher remake is the definite source for titties, gore, psychopathic killers wielding machetes and of course, chinese marijuana addicts, and that's saying a lot due to My Bloody Valentine 3-D being out right now. Still nothing new is crapped out from Michael Bay or Marcus Nispel's ass and we're left with a cheap-thrilled, unclever mess of a horror movie. Still reminds me of the swinging 80s though, which is good. Also who can resist the opening?

Wow Michael Bay. Wow. It takes effort to make a movie so gloriously bad that the best part about it, is the gloriously naked women (partially true). While I wasn't the biggest fan of the original, I understand it's popularity. Here however, nothing works. The story is stupid, the acting is a million times worse, and the direction is nothing to be proud of. As a cinephile who doesn't consider himself that shallow, the best part of this movie was boobs. Enough said.

In this kind of slasher movie, mediocrity can be a saving grace. All you have to do is kill teenagers in interesting ways, anything beyond that is often a lost cause. This isn't a good movie by any means, but it does what it needs to do: Sleaze and a bodycount. And it does it well enough.

Don't get me wrong, the characters and dialogue all suck and the movie is a total slog whenever Jason isn't on screen... but when he is on screen, Derek Mears brings something special to the role as a faster and meaner Voorhees than the franchise ever had before. The kills are refreshingly savage after so many of the sequels were neutered by the MPAA, and there's a surprising amount of creativity to the violence as well

(2016 Jasonthon #12:) After mucking about for decades with zombies, horror-comedy, psychic powers, Manhattan, body-swapping, sci-fi spaceships and vs. Freddy, this film restores the purity of parts 2-4 of of the original series: Deformed backwoods retard Jason butchering campers at Crystal Lake. Lots of solid violence and kills and tons of tits (albeit some fake ones). It just can't quite stick the ending though, with its need to add a shitty final "stinger" souring the experience.

Literally anyone could have directed this movie because it is that generic. There is not a single original idea in this paint by the numbers remake. With that being said you can't expect a whole lot from Friday the 13th. It's meant to be a mindless oversexed gorefest so in that sense it delivers. Jason is faster and more brutal than ever before. The characters in this movie are hilarious stereotypes though and you can tell the writers weren't even trying.

Pretty fucking boring and generic in every way, then again I never cared much for the original series. You'd think a modern remake would improve or experiment with the formula but no - just more lazy, conventional horror to add to the shitpile, filled with bland teenagers getting slaughtered one by one in fairly unimaginative ways (at least there's tits this time). No real human acts like any of the characters in this film. Zzzz. Kids, flush this turd and watch Bava's "Bay Of Blood" instead.

There are some nice effects, a lot of kills ( needful for a slasher ) and some very good and proper sound setting on the "pro" side. The negative side limps with a hoooribble story ( ok there was no story in the originals either but like gogokain said why took jason a prisoner, such nonsens ) very poor acting ( the actors are so beautiful & stupid they might advertise for ck underwear ) and at least the question does that movie-series need a remake ? A faster stronger Jason hunts down a group of young adults. The new and improved Jason also knows how to use a bow and arrow. Jason was always the machete wielding maniac who could come out of nowhere. There were a few good chuckles from Aaron Yoo and some gory deaths, but in the end was just another excuse of a film to have horny teenagers having sex and being predictably executed one by one. The faster stronger Jason did nothing to improve this movie, and neither did the young cast to be fair.

Gritty reboot alert! Strips everything that was goofy, stupid (in a good way) and fun about the originals in favor of a hackneyed "mythology" (this aint The Wandering of Dionysus, people), superficial "improvements" (Jason runs now!) and comical self-importance. Friday the 13th is SERIOUS, you guys. EveryTHING is sleek, and hpyerstylized. EveryONE is pretty and shiny. Look, the originals were mostly bad but had a sort of lo-fi DIY charm (esp 1, 2, 4, 6) to them. IE, everything that this is not.

I enjoyed this movie, sure. It has some really serious, glaring flaws though, namely that it brings nothing to the table that the original friday the 13th movies didn't. What is the point of just remaking a movie like this with modern day characters? It falls prey to all the shortcomings of the slasher genre and makes me sad for the "future" of this genre. Where's the originality that spawned monsters like Krueger or Scream?

Is Friday the 13th a great movie? No, but how good could a reboot of a generally bad '80s slasher movie be? This is a competent movie which improves in most regards over the majority of the ten (solo) Friday the 13th films that came before it. It's moderately scary, Jason is a more effective killer, you can tell everyone apart, there is plenty of gore, and the dialogue didn't force me to hope the characters all got a knife to the chest. In all, t's not a bad attempt at rebooting the franchise.

Rote mechanical remake. Nispel's poor attempt here is not as dire and groan worthy as his remake of Texas Chainsaw because Friday The 13th was never that good to begin with, but it is totally bereft of the humour and campy charm of the 80's films, completely unaware of its own stupidity or even worse, is flagrantly indifferent towards it. Debating against myself only furthers me to get off the fence and recommend this 'remake' that is really just another sequel being called a remake to entice more cash. This Jason is fierce, fast, and not zombie-like. The kills are gruesome, and there's some added plot threads. It's the best looking '13th' film, has the best pacing, and doesn't make its characters "complete" idiots. For a standard slasher without any ambition or aspiration, it's decent enough and the best of the series.

Old Jason has been replaced with a plotting and kidnapping one, for the worse I think. What used to separate him from Myers pure psychopathy and Leatherface's gleeful sadism was his instinctual, crocodilian aggression now lost. He's now just a poor clone of Myers. The action is garbled and the film has a particularly ugly orange/teal lens-flare look. Disappointing.

Top badass moment? Surprisingly few choices, so I'm going for Jason's top throw with the full-sized, double-headed axe. Getting one to fly through the air would be hard enough, but doing so and hitting someone running fast 20m away is pretty impressive. What a shame he didn't get the chance to take up the javelin or hammer at school; things might have been different. No cats, 3 decapitations and no chainsaws. Only one decapitation is on-screen, but it's done to Major Kira Nerys from Star Trek!

After a 25-MINUTE-LONG PROLOGUE, with barely any relevance to the actual movie, it's pretty much Jason hunting down a series of tropes in minimally-creative ways. What's more, they sort of tried to cram the plots of all three of the first movies into this remake. There's the bit about Jason's mom, a period where Jason wears a bag over his head, and the discovery of the hockey mask. And nothing new or creative is made.

As a major fan of the Friday The 13th series, this one was a must watch. It has its good and bad points. Good points...Jason was strong, cunning, fast, and a skilled predator; he had tunnels underground (which explained how he got around so fast during the past 20-years); pretty woman (a big part of the series). Bad points...a very, very slow movie. It was about 20-minutes or more before the characters in the movie was introduced. Not bloody enough, no camp councilors, and too bland.
