Don't dismiss it immediately as an attempt to squeeze some profits out of a long dead title, it's not the piece of crap you would think. It is, however, no groundbreaking movie, but what it is, is a great candidate for a movie to take your kids to...if you have kids...and if you have to take them to a movie.

Inoffensive update of the original. It's a simple sci-fi/chase movie for kids with plenty of PG action and humour. The Rock shows off some surprising comic ability and there's a few inspired scenes (being chased by an alien killing machine through a cosplay convention while nerds in homemade Stormtrooper outfits cheer the alien's attention to detail in his costume).

Didn't watch the original nor read the book, but the actors worked together just fine to make it worth watching all the way through. However, some of the writing is weak and the movie isn't very creative or funny when it tries to be. If you are looking for something to watch with the family this should be fine.

A bad mix of many cliches strung together to pretend to make a film. Just about everything hear screams PG Disney trying to branch out into a new genre, and it does not work. Johnson is charismatic as always and I give him that but the other actors just generally do not work and plot and character motivation are generally non-existent. Not even worth it for the kids.

Sacrifices plot and character development for its frenetic pace. It's more about "hold on tight, it's gonna be a bumpy ride."

Movies like this one get made all the time. It's inoffensive, watchable and not really worth your time. And I knew that putting it on. But, hey, even in below-average flicks The Rock never really disappoints, so why not?

Okay...so maybe the kids were not the most convincing otherworld lifeforms but the pic was well paced....if a little long and predictable.

Simple but effective family movie with Disney-high production values. I also love Dwayne Johnson.

Good: special effects; Bad: too kiddish, cinematography, acting, no chemistry between lead lady & Rock, jokes, main villain cliche, main bad alien was lame

Still, give Fickman credit for not showing death or blood, or scripting foul language or salacious sexual content. And Race to Witch Mountain goes out of its way to showcase a good guy who goes out of his way to protect innocents--ultimately saving aliens and humans alike--without once grabbing a weapon to blaze back at his attackers. I appreciated the gun-rights moment and making fun of UFO people. I know some kids will get a kick out of it, but it was very predictable. I wish I'd had a movie cliché Bingo board.

I was really looking forward to this movie, and other then The Rock, there is not much to like. Anna Sophia Rob shines, but her cardboard counterpart drags her down. The story is boorish and predictable.

Despite a pretty predictable premise, mediocre acting and heavy-handed attempts at comedy, I can't fault this too badly since it's got Garry Marshall in it and that makes everything better...usually.

Neutered action film with echoes of Terminator, The Transporter and such, only for the very young or very prudish.

Totally Different Story-Line than from the 70s. Although, this was more comical and the graphics were way better than the older, I still like the 70s better. Don't get me wrong, I loved the Rock and the Scientist Girl in this movie. Majority of the times I prefer the original. I was highly pleased with this adaption though!! The Rock made the movie quite interesting and for once NO BAD LANGUAGE! There is though some rough violence, so I don't reccomand anyone under 8 or 7 to watch this movie!! W

Solid acting from everyone except the boy. Weak script. I feel like this would have been a better movie without the guns and violence---really limits the intended audience. Really stupid bullet stopping sequence. Fav scene: anytime the Rock kicks ass.

The Rock is at least entertaining, especially his reaction to following orders from a dog. Otherwise, zzzzzz...

Race to Witch Mountain is the latest Disney "made for kids only" effort. It takes all the usual Disney hooks - cute children, a likeable protagonist, lame action and lamer jokes, some special effects, poker-faced bad guys, and an animal - and throws them into a story that makes no sense whatsoever. So, while children will be entertained by the flashy eye candy and pointless running around, adults will be obsessed with determining how such a nonsensical script could get made into a movie.

Another one that I forgot to add to the log... which says a lot. A bunch of sci-fi clichés stuck together, without much depth to the story.
