It's pretty good at conveying a mood of confusion within a hyper-structured society but it gets so caught up in visual and aural experimentation that the narrative is left rather weak, losing the emotional payoff it's supposed to have. Kind of foreshadows future Lucas, I guess.

A complete mess of electronic voices and snappy editing. No real story, and it feels really amateurish.

I'm giving this one point less than the actual THX1138 movie because it is the exact same movie but shorter (which I like) but it is still a really bad movie. Plus, what's worse is that this movie does not have any good nudity like the full length feature has. So it doesn't even have that saving grace. Now if they could take the length of this one add some nudity from the full length movie we might be in business. As much fun as listening to a CB radio in your car in a parking garage.

like james cameron, george lucas makes an early short which shows his preoccupation with making silly sci-fi nonsense. however, this is much more interesting, with some nice imagery. unfortunately the sound recording was awful, making me unable to hear what anyone was saying on their radio devices, which somewhat hampered my understanding of what was going on.

This is a about a escape narrated by machines -- or human beings that talk like machines. Interesting ride.

Pretty weird, but at least not boring. It's fun to see little details that made it to the feature length version.

I liked the editing (by the editor/lead actor Dan Natchsheim) and on screen texts and digits. The story was weak if you haven't seen the feature though.

Good editing including some quick cuts to keep things moving in this short runtime. Some good ideas that made it to the remake. The voices were too annoying for me. Ultimately it's too long for what it was, without setting enough foundation in the plot. For a short version, Apple's famous 1984 ad did it much better. Fav scene: opening the tunnel to the outside door and then blinding the camera.

Fairly effective experiment that seems aimed at visually and aurally expressing the consequences of rationalisation. Comes across almost as a response to listening to the way NASA speaks to itself at mission control, or military versions of the same thing. I guess the main thing that happened between this and the feature film version, cinematically speaking, is the release of 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY: perhaps it shows in the differences between the two, possibly both stylistically and thematically.
