Comedy veterans and co-creators Penn Jillette and Paul Provenza capitalize on their insider status and invite over 100 of their closet friends (who happen to be some of the biggest names in entertainment, from George Carlin, Whoopi Goldberg, Drew Carey to Gilbert Gottfried, Bob Saget, Paul Reiser and Sarah Silverman) to reminisce, analyze, deconstruct and deliver their own versions of the world's dirtiest joke, an old burlesque routine, too extreme to be performed in public, called "The Aristocrats." The joke becomes tired after a few minutes. Only one or two funny incarnations of the joke in the whole movie. If I wanted to hear people talk about incest, pedophilia, necrophilia, etc.. I'd go to more family reunions.

You would think a feature-length documentary whose sole purpose is to chronicle the culture of a running inside joke would run out of steam within a few minutes, but the story of The Aristocrats and its mystique is surprisingly riveting...oh, and funny.

I hated this movie, because I thought I'd get to see full versions of the joke. It annoyed me hearing ten-second snippets, and there was way too much "documentary" on a joke that's really a simple concept. I could improvise it better than a lot of the comedians that did.

Really annoying editing style throughout the movie. The shitty video quality is forgivable for this kind of movie, but the mindless, unnecessary cross-cutting is not. Just because you have two cameras handy doesn't mean you need to have to keep switching between them.

With all of these great comedians, you'd expect the movie to be funny and it just plain isn't. A lot of these comedians mistake crudeness for comedy. Crudeness can be funny but, in this case, it's not.

Wildly uneven; sometimes it gets chuckles, once and only once it made me laugh and laugh and laugh to tears (Two words: Smothers Brothers) -- but mostly it just sits there on the screen, saying dirty words and giggling.

Even if you find the joke funny, you'll be tired of it by the end of the movie. Painful for those who don't equate crassness with humour. Not good at investigating the joke as a documentary either.

The Aristocrats is a film by comedians, for comedians, about a joke that only a true comedian at heart could really appreciate. Unless you're a comedian or are fascinated by how metaphorical comedic sausage gets made, The Aristocrats is about as obvious an excuse to engage in excessively filthy humor as the joke is itself.

A funny documentary on the dissection of humor. The humor is in the delivery, not the joke itself. The opportunity to see such disparate comedians all with their own unique take makes it's worth a watch. Also, Bob Saget.

If you like really really vulgar comedy then this is for you. I tried to keep watching it because some of the stuff I found funny (Gilbert Gotfried and Drew Carey), but I only made it about 30 minutes before I finally quit. I guess I just do not like crass jokes. I was upset I was unable to last to see Saget, Silverman, Stewart or Chris Rock, but just couldn't handle it anymore.

It's a good documentary on a JOKE. Some would misconstrue that this movie is supposed to be a laugh-out-loud comedy. This is not the case. The movie is about the joke, if you find the interpretations funny, then you've got a plus to your experience.

I couldn't get through it. I tried--really did. But it got bad after 20 minutes. And the next 20 minutes were worse. I appreciate what they were trying to do, but a good idea with good participants doesn't always translate into a good movie. And as trite as this sounds, it suffers from literally being a one-joke movie. We "get it" after the first few minutes and wonder why the rest of the film is there.

I went in fully expecting the joke to be disgusting and offensive, and I wasn't disappointed- mainly because the film managed to completely gross me out and offend me. I should point out that I don't get fazed by much. The joke aside, the direction was awful because none of the jokes were ever delivered in their entirety and the editing was jerky - it seemed like a bad montage.

A couple of the versions had me laughing, but they're largely the same. The joke's not why I liked the film though - I just liked the camaraderie and the sense of this shared humour among all these amazing comics. If I had one complaint, it was the editing - it was just a bit too sporadic sometimes. If you're a fan of comedy and stand-up comedians, give it a watch.

Technically very ragged but consistently hilarious collage of comedy never rises above the concept of a gag reel, which makes the occasional 'serious' moments and observations a bit glaring and jarring. Highlights include Gottfried's go-for-broke appearance at the Friar's Club, Martin Mull's devilishly droll and clever variation, and the 'Silent Movie' version.

The Aristocrats is a documentary about an inside joke amongst comedians. It's not really one joke, since the joke can be told in an infinite number of ways, and is basically the indication of how good of a comedian you are. Indeed the delivery and words of the joke are different with each comedian, and the level of laughter is also different, but this movie is simply all these people telling the same joke over and over for an hour and a half. What we get is some really funny moments but also a

Most versions of the joke itself aren't too funny (though a few are). Hundreds of comedians telling variations of the same dirty joke. It was funny, and I had a good time watching it, but when you hear the same joke over and over and over again for an hour and a half, it stops being edgy and gets to be a bit grating. I zoned out several times during this movie and didn't feel like I was missing anything. It just. keeps. going. Silverman, Richter and Saget are the standouts, but whoever did the Liza Minelli impersonation got the biggest laughs from this audience.
