Certainly important as a landmark film in how it ushered in violence into mainstream Hollywood pictures, but age has weathered its impact and nothing else about the movie really knocks you out. Enjoyable, but its fellow violent contemporary, The Wild Bunch, holds up much, much better.

Broke all sorts of new ground when it went so far as to show a woman riding in the front seat of a car. Supposedly, some audience members fainted. The visual proved too much for the masses and it wasn't until 1989 after Jessica Tandy won an Oscar for sitting in the back seat of an automobile that people were comfortable enough to see women in the front seat again.

It's interesting from a historical perspective how this film broke several Hollywood taboos and how it influenced the use of violence in years to come. It doesn't really hold up that well once Buck and his annoying wife show up, but it's still worth a look. Beatty and Dunaway have a lot of charisma and always managed to keep my attention.

Succeeds as a candid portrait of the notorious couple, but they're also the film's main issue: a bunch of petty, juvenile criminals who enrolled in robbing gas stations and grocery stores, becoming - undeservedly so - the center of media launched attention. One doesn't need this film to grow tired of them, which is what I eventually did about 20 minutes in. Not horrible, but nothing special either. Also, learn to read a winner's card, you senile old fucks.

Very good crime oldie. Faye Dunaway without underwear is sexy like a bitch, so why a guy like Clyde cannot get his boner ready. Closet case for me. Good acting, storytelling and directing. Banjo brings some (necessary?) comedy extension. More entertaining than Oliver Stone's Natural Born Killers.

My initial reaction was disappointment. My personal taste suggests I would be a big fan, but I did not care for the direction or editing. The characters came off as annoying, making it hard to appreciate their cultural infamy. This will probably be a movie I appreciate for its cultural value, and the fact that it challenged censorship, but compared stylistically to a movie like the Godfather that came out only 5 years later, it hasn't aged well.

(Viewed on 12/06/14): Overrated by older cinephiles and underrated by millennials, Bonnie and Clyde is certainly an example of a film whose impact has been blunted over time, if only because standards for violence have loosened considerably since its release, so it seems rather tame today. But you won't find this level of craft in a contemporary crime drama, nor movie stars as mercurial and iconic as Beatty and Dunaway were in these star making roles; and the ending still packs a visceral punch.

Just as I expected from what I knew of the story. Bonnie was the main character for me, Clyde was a dud, CW was quiet, and Buck was interesting. Blanche was very annoying so I'll attribute that to good acting. A better movie might have really focused on the law enforcement/media environment at the time which pumped up the gang. Fav scene: turning around to chase and pick up Eugene and Viola and driving them around.

B & C is an interesting and fundamental study of violence as an originary act which holds society together. As Benjamin puts it, violence has a law-making and law-preserving character and gangsters which go too far are actually the enemies of state because they reveal the origin of law and hence threaten it. In that sense this is a rebellion film like "Rebel Without a Cause" and you can see "Badlands" or Peckinpah's fast paced movies coming. Btw, Dunaway is sensational and Bonnie is unforgetable

Mistakes - 1) In the scene where the gang is in the car eating the donuts, Blanch's donuts switches from being half eaten to only one bite and then back to half eaten. 2) In the first few minutes of the movie, when Bonnie first goes out to meet Clyde, she 'clomps' down the stairs in obviously hard, heeled shoes. A few minutes later, as they're walking, she's now wearing soft, flat shoes.

I don't think that its tongue in cheek folk-tale approach has worn too well, though it no doubt seemed very au courant and chic at the time of release. We have to put up with Dunaway's acting, which definitely has its shaky moments (though she of course has amazing cheekbones, and looks stylish in, and out of, a hat), and Beatty, who sometimes seems to consist just of a gigantic grin. But it's well-shot and keeps moving...and the death is quite scarifying (Hackman's wife is truly an idiot, btw).

I love how the characters become projections of each other's ambitions. Bonnie, the pretty Texas blonde, wishes to become a movie star. Clyde turns her into a notorious bank robber, which is as close to fame as she will ever get. Clyde, failing in the mister torpedo-area, uses his gun as a prime expression of masculinity. Thanks to Bonnie's admiration, the petty thief sees himself a world-class outlaw. But in the end, the film was only as good as the character's skills: mediocre at best.

Still quite violent, even today, though the violence does look dated you can still appreciate the visceral feel of the movie as well as the frantic editing which reflects the spontaneous personality of the leads. Beatty and Dunaway make a great couple and you can sense the almost perverse attraction between the two. It's certainly landmark cinema and it's still well worth seeing, even today.

The cast is amazing; the bizarre, frayed relationships within the Barow Gang have an air of authority and authenticity. The camera-work is so sleek that it manages to seamlessly merge the self-consciousness of the French New Wave with the detachment of Italian Neo-Realism. Simply amazing.

It's neat seeing a film so integral in the emergence of film violence. I enjoyed both of the main characters, especially Dunaway. But when the secondary characters came along I felt more annoyed than interested. I know Estelle Parsons' character was SUPPOSED to be annoying, but my god her shrieking was driving me crazy. The movie is interesting historically, entertaining for the most part, but somewhat forgettable overall.

This is one of those movies considered great mostly because they're remembered as having broken a Hollywood taboo, but really there were much better, more daring (and even more violent) movies being made at the time. My dislike of Dunaway and hatred for Beatty aside, and corny bluegrass music notwithstanding, it's still an okay movie, especially the ending.

The writing and frenetic action scenes are top drawer, and the gradual shift in tone is fantastically executed. Beatty and Dunaway are excellent as the notorious criminal pair, and Pollard and Hackman excel in supporting roles.

Beatty, who also produced this exciting, well-written gangster classic, is brilliant as the impotent hoodlum Barrow. The film established Dunaway as a major screen personality, and Parsons won an Academy Award for her supporting role as Clyde's sister-in-law.

I could watch this movie again and again. Warren Beatty's Clyde is cool, funny, and complicated. Faye Dunaway's Bonnie is badass, caring, and just as complex. The two main characters don't overshadow each other and they both deserve top billing in this nearly perfect film. I would say this movie made the couple more famous than than before

The crime elements are very well executed, but other parts of the movie are too melodramatic. Basically it's the screenplay's haphazard nature that lets down a technically well made movie. By no means bad, just very underwhelming. Bonus: Gene Wilder's cameo is one of the film's highlights.

Although it sounds like an abbreviated and compressed version of the actual events, it still works very successfully, mostly as a romance film because of how great the acing is, especially the two leads. The sense of adventure and breaking out of the norm of dull living is highly prevalent here, and the audience goes along on the ride -- plus the action is jaw-dropping, quite hardcore for the '60s.

It definitely says more about the fluxxy attitudes of the 1960s than it does about the Depression (women, class war etc). Though Bonnie and Clyde are the DNA parents of the romantic murder-spree subgenre, as a media-poisoned millennial I prefer their less dated descendants; Badlands, Wild at Heart, Natural Born Killers etc.

This is a somewhat stylish (for its time) film depicting the life and times of an infamous duo. I can see why it got a strong rating on its release, for fears of glamorising such a criminal lifestyle and the whole 'laissez faire' attitude of the titular characters. There is some bloody violence present, given it dates from the 60s - compared to the 80s 'video nasties' its fairly tame though. It must have seemed like a breath of fresh air for young adults in the 1960s (when it dates from)

They say that it was groundbreaking at the time, but today it feels fairly conventional. It didn't help that every time I began to get sucked into the story they started playing music that belongs in the Dukes of Hazard. My God. Who's idea was that?

The final scene in this film may be one of my absolute favorites. It's brutal, it's raw, it's expected, but yet so sudden. Penn, with the help of Benton and Newman, beautifully crafts the characters of Bonnie and Clyde while managing to fill the audience with a sense of impending doom.

A man struggles between over-compensating for and overcoming his impotence, gambling that there must be some percentage in the attempt, however elusive it might seem. A little rough around the edges, but still a big step forward in terms of populating a criminal milieu with complicated, interesting and human characters, and the greatest crime spree movie of all time...until BADLANDS. This is more conventional than Malick's film, with fewer layers, but it is very well made and remains affecting.

I forgot that Warren Beatty used to be an actor. We meet the eponymous duo at the very beginning, and inside of about ten minutes you know that both these people are WRONG. Fascinating portrait of people who are legendary and pathetic at the same time. I have a few niggling doubts about the staging; otherwise, I can now understand why this movie is regarded as such a classic -- because it is. I enjoyed every moment with these characters. I also would have been delighted to shoot them myself

Great flick. Mostly excellent script, although I don't think the whole impotence gimmick really worked. Warren Beatty is certainly charismatic and never looked better. I had the feeling Faye Dunaway was not so much creating a character but playing herself most of the time. For me, the most inspired piece of casting was Michael J. Pollard as C.W.--he is simply stupendous and steals every scene he's in without trying.

This film scores points for being ahead of its time with violence, anti-heroes, and moral questions. My main gripe is that it doesn't ellicit emotions of being invested in the characters or feeling at odds with the crimes they are committing. The dialogue is earnest and I was rooting for the gang of criminals, but you never quite feel as attached as you should. Gene Hackman does a great job to liven up things, but it still suffers from being somewhat dull and too matter of fact.

I love Dunaway and Beatty, as well as Hackman and Wilder, but the film simply doesn't work beyond going "oh look, they were made media superstars and he did it because he was impotent!!!" Fortunately, the atmosphere keeps it going.

Faye Dunaway this cute, Beatty was bearable for most of it. But 55 years later, any influence is gone, and you're left with a movie who doesn't have anything particularly strong going for it. It doesn't have the "coolness" of a Godard film, the grittiness of a classic film noir, or the dialogue of a Billy Wilder. At least an exploitation of this would have given me more violence or a cool soundtrack!!
