This comedy-adventure film is aimed more towards children than adults, but Clarke's finely crafted story doesn't talk down to its target audience. It's charming, brisk and light-hearted fun, deftly directed by Ealing master Crichton, and the setting of a damaged post-War London makes for a nice snapshot in time.

Really cute to see london and it's children before the invention of teenagers.

Hue and Cry (1947) has its quirks about it, but it's done in such a way that it rivals, or even surpasses, its inspiration Emil und die Detektive (1931) (or it's 1935 British remake called Emil and the Detectives) as one of the most brilliant kids adventures of the classic era! Pure mayhem in the ruins of London!
