Spike Lee's style really doesn't work all that well for a heist movie. Too much is given away too quickly, removing tension from the film because you already have a good idea of what happens before the movie comes even close to finishing. You're pummeled with race relations, rather than a crime thriller. It's still alright though.

Watched this film at the insistence of my "date" who then proceeded to pass out on the couch from a copious amount of weed. Never been a huge fan of Spike Lee. I liked what he has to say, in general, but do not feel that he always puts his point across in the best way possible (save for Do The Right Thing). However, I found this to be a generally engaging film. Clive Owens did a fine job and kept my interest throughout.

The plot of this movie was one of the best I've ever heard of. Everything was thought out perfectly, and the plan was genius. Although the movie was very serious, there were some funny parts to lighten the mood. For example, during an intense scene, an older white man's phone goes off playing "Gold Digger" (a popular rap song) as his ringtone. The idea of the antagonist hiding out behind a wall and escaping later was brilliant. This movie was very enjoyable!

A rather intelligent script but a very questionable directorial work by Spike Lee. Some very obvious bad choices of story telling and camera work, not to mention the irritating use of the dolly technique. The really good part is in the sub-text which touches on the delicate matter of prejudice and power-hierarchy. Not up par with the 25th Hour but watchable on a regular evening which is exactly what I did :)

There's a saying in Turkish (I've been told) that goes: "I'm pissing on your face and you fool you think it's raining". That's exactly the sort of impression I was left with at the end of this flick. Utter baloney. Empty, none of it works. As far as I'm concerned, Spike Lee was taking the piss - and I for one didn't think it was raining. Bad bad bad.

A lot of fun and about as mainstream as Spike Lee will probably ever get. A heist thriller with some rough edges and rougher subplots but for the most part the pacing is good, the performances are excellent and a lot of the underlying themes - racial tension, post-9/11 paranoia, greed, moral shades of grey - work well without interfering with the highly entertaining bank job. It isn't trying to be a big 'message movie' but instead succeeds as a suspenseful crime thriller with interesting subtext

Gerald Butler shaves his beard and becomes Clive Owen in Jodie Foster's Panic Inside Man on Fire Room, starring (sadly) the more-talk-less-fight Denzel Washington instead of the less-talk-more-fight Denzel. I'm pretty sure I had this idea before Spike Lee, but in my version, everyone was wearing Guy Fawkes masks and talking alliteratively. Successively reminded me that the PSP was shit, even when it was new...and that was only 10 years ago.

This film is not as clever as it would like you to believe. Clive Owen's plan was pretty obvious to me after about 20 minutes, it was just a matter of why. The "why" is a big letdown, and the initial momentum of the good setup really peters out to nothing in the painful and totally unneccessary last 20 minutes. The overall tone is way too light and breezy to have real tension, and the film has exactly zero likeable characters.

I've seen this flick more than once, but cannot remember have I ever seen it from the start. Acting is okay, directing is okay, the script is right. But still something vital is missing: it's not thrilling. It's too clean. And predictable. In the end you do not bother who's on who's side, because the last half an hour does not offer anything surprising.

The worst movie ever made. The previews made it look like an action thriller, but there was very little action. The plot was very boring, the characters were terrible, and there were vomit-endusing attempts at comic relief. The ending is an insult to the thriller genre. There was also loud jazz music that played during some important dialogue for no reason. There is nothing to like about this poor excuse for a movie. Stay FAR away.

Quite a well-thought-out bank robbery. It's interesting how the movie doesn't really make you pick a side. You kind of want the bank robbers to succeed, just for the sake of seeing it pulled off, but at the same time you're not totally against the police, because they're mostly ordinary guys just trying to do their jobs. Well-made, and entertaining from start to finish.

Entertaining & fun thriller that has a lot of style & some good performances married with a solid script. There are some plot holes here & it's a tad too predictable, but the story is just strong & fun enough to pull through. However if there was ever a Spike film that didn't require Spike's usual fascination with race issues, this is it. It certainly does not spoil this movie, but so often it seems as if Spike desperate to fight the good fight and force it into his films in a clumsy fashion!

Spike Lee's energetic and clever bank-heist thriller touches on questions of race and class without taking away from the tension and fun of the cat-and-mouse games between a hostage negotiator (Denzel Washington), a bank robber (Clive Owen), and a high-powered fixer (Jodie Foster). Inside Man [...] is a smart genre film that is not only rewarding on its own terms, but manages to subvert its pulpy trappings with wit and skill.

Although some details of this movie seem superfluous, and perhaps a bit drawn-out on the plot-side of things, it ultimately collects itself into a delicate wrap of a cleverly written screenplay and spectacular cinematography, topped off with some stellar acting. The racial element of this film feels awkwardly forced, and serves as nothing more than a distraction from the main plot, as does the short play on economic castes that is quickly squeezed in. A worthy thriller: Engaging and smart.

This is one of the best mystery movie of the new millennium. A great cast, a great director, and an example of the "perfect crime." As with all of Spike Lee's movies, this ones main character is really the city of New York and all of the people that are mixed therein. This movie is one of those great movies that camouflage the good guys and the bad guys. One of the most relatable points was the discussion about money and Grand Central Station led to a pretty funny exchange between the cops.

Very interesting effort from Spike as his trademark dialogue heavy, stylized approach to racial politics is subsumed by a mildly intriguing but largely by the numbers Hollywood heist movie. The main players all give good performances and the dialogue crackles, mostly. Entertaining but the real show here is watching Spike adapt to the confines of a hollywood blockbuster.

Another Spike Lee masterpiece. The way it is able to intersect the real links between all the worst leaders in the world, the bankers and nazi Germany and subtle (and no so subtle) race issues in America, while in the recent shadow of 9/11 is remarkable. Washington does enough to carry the film, he has a handful of enjoyable moments but his character is unlikeable. And the cast is strong on paper but nobody lives up to their reputation.
