Chungking Express

My favourite film, from my favourite filmmaker. Very beautiful movie thanks to Christopher Doyle, who isnt afraid to stretch the limits of the medium, but never gets artsy for the sake of being artsy. Great story, great characters, and one of the best endings ever in film.

The second half of this movie is the cutest thing I may have ever witnessed on screen.

A perfect movie for the dreamers. Kar Wai's best work so far.

Why have I not rate this film yet?! Nonetheless, I am absolutely enamored with this film. Watch it for yourselves; it inspired me to listen to Dennis Brown (he has an incredible song in there called "Things in Life").

Vibrant meditation on love and life following two cops going through break ups. Amazing cinematography with wonderful juxtaposition of the energy and isolation of Hong Kong in the 1990's.

CALIFORNIA DREAMIN

I had seen Fallen Angels first, and during the first half I thought this movie wasn't nearly as good, but then the second half just swept me away.

Slow paced well shot moving film about love and dreams. Can't listen to California Dreaming without thinking about it

Very good cinematography. Though the story is interesting, screenplay and direction was a bit convoluted. Both the female lead in 1st story and male in 2nd story are so expressionless that it is confusing. The first story seemed a bit underdeveloped than the 2nd- It didn't make an emotional impact on me. I was beginning to think that the film was overrated when the second story started (so abruptly - confusing me again). But the second story & excellent acting by Faye Wong saved the film for me

Would have made more sense as a three part story, as the director originally intended. Cute movie.

Love this, but I love most Wong Kar-Wai. Love all the actors in this. A GREAT intro to Wong's work, and these brilliant actors. Chris Doyle's cinematography ... sigh !

Chungking Express embraces the melancholy of lonely life encouraging us to indulge in moments of life love touches, even if they are short-lived.

California Dreamin! Once again, the cinematography and colors are just beautiful. The story is touching and Tony Leung is just as charming as always. The pacing is borderline boring but the calmness is crucial for the film.

like a asian version of godard

It's nice to see what Hong Kong and life was like in 1994. I like the way it was filmed and the direction was realistic. It's a bit slow though and it's not clear where the story is going. It's like a life of an average person without a specific objective.
