How pathetic is your high school existence that a caveman outclasses you socially. Oh right, Pauly Shore. I know I’ve seen this before but I had no memory of it. It’s amazing how the brain works with repressing memories to protect you. “Hmm do we block out the time the babysitter was handsy or Pauly Shore movies”

Stupid yet kind of funny. The fact that it's probably Brendan Fraser's best work is funny in a sad sort of way. As a side note, Pauly Shore isn't nearly as annoying as a side character as he is when he is the star. Or maybe his Shtick just hadn't been shoved down our throats yet.

It's hard to say if Pauly Shore makes or ruins this movie. It wouldn't be the same without his orignal style, but that's also what makes it nearly unwatchable. Rent it for the first 30 minutes if you want to see a nearly naked Brendan Fraser at his prime.

dnf - 25 min. Oddly, I had no problem with Shore. And Brendan Fraser was clearly all in. Sadly, Sean Astin, playing a husky Corey Haim, is insufferable. If he'd been buried in the bottom of the pool right after finding the caveman, I might have finished it. (he was great as Sam though - I'll give him that).

You sit through the entire movie smiling and occasionally laughing. And when the movie ends you realise nothing worthwhile ever happened during the running time of 90 odd minutes and yet you enjoyed the movie. Frankly, do not care for the score.

It deeply excites me to know that a script involving a teenage caveman in high school could find wild success as an American film in the '90's... I think it says a lot about the can-do spirit of this great nation. However, the movie itself wasn't, you know, good.

You either like or dislike Pauly Shore, I happen to like his schtick that in combination with Brendan Fraser and to a lesser extent Sean Astin works well here. We all need a moral compass like Stoney - don't sell out your friends for popularity - and friends like Link. Don't be a Dave, rather wheeze the juice.

Another staple of the early 1990's. I remember this being a big thing when it first came out. It still holds up pretty well, mostly because of Brendan Fraser, although it's easy to see why Pauly Shore in his prime was popular.

Ooohhh man... where to begin. Paulie Shore co-stars, so you know it's zany, it's about a caveman (who doesn't like cavemen) and Brendon Fraser doesn't have to speak coherent english so there isn't too much to draw back on the quality of the rest of the film ;) Overall a dumb comedy movie, but one of my favourites since I was a kid.

A bit ridiculous. There are a couple moments that are chuckleworthy, but on the whole the best thing this movie does is introduce the world to fairly newcomer Brendan Fraser.

I spent almost the entire movie wishing for Pauly Shore to be punched hard in the face, but unfortunately that only happened to Sean Astin. The rare few jokes that work come solely from Fraser's physical comedy act. Otherwise dreadfully unfunny.

For a Pauly Shore movie it's actually not horrible, but it has all the mind-numbing bullshit that one can love about Pauly Shore movies. Plus its probably Brendan Frasier's best role. It's really quite funny which is surprising and it has inspired a lot of my vocabulary for the two weeks after watching it.

(Viewed on 17/7/13):The fact that I resist scoring E.M lower is surely a sign of the pernicious influence that the culture industries had on my adolescence, and the resulting nostalgia prevents me from being truly objective about a film that is, quite frankly, bad. Being only 13, I was the perfect target for this sort of high concept crap that was made cheaply during Disney's brief austerity period, which was even shorter in duration than Shore's movie career. Worth a look for 90's junk addicts.

For all the goofball stereotypes this movie has; somehow, it manages to be flat out boring. The comedy around the caveman is repetitive and they use the same punchline in virtually the same context consistently throughout the film and the fact that no one seems to acknowledge his peculiar characteristics somehow sucks a lot of comedy out of the film. It is funny; though, that it does make Astin's character seem like a total loser when he's outclassed by a caveman.

I think I laughed twice during the movie, so we'll give each laugh five points, but overall, this movie sucks so bad. I sat through it politely when someone put it on the other day and tried my best to hold my breath. Was Pauly Shore ever funny? Show me a man who thinks so and I'll show you a moron. Awful movie.

Although Pauly Shore's acting is pretty atrocious here, it doesn't ruin the movie. No, Encino Man's goofy, comedic plot is squandered by extremely poor writing. The premise of the movie promises a number of potentially hilarious events, but it instead delivers a very mediocre coming-of-age story that isn't worth telling.

It's pretty much a harmless-enough buddy comedy, but it parallels Weird Science in a lot of ways, including the way the plot gets confused. Like, first this caveman is the ticket to the main characters becoming popular (which would happen because...?) but by the end it's more like "who needs to be popular anyway?"

This awkward vehicle for annoying MTV dude Shore is (I guess) a comic take-off on _Iceman_ but I kept hoping it would turn into a remake of _Return of the Ape Man_, with Fraser finally strangling his jerky costar. Despite its many faults, Fraser shines in the title role.

The film that prepared Brendan Fraser for his iconic role as George of the Jungle. Honestly, this is one of Pauly Shore's more bearable movies because the concept is somewhat intriguing. Comedies that use ridiculous "what-if" scenarios are often mildly entertaining because they can make good use of slapstick physical comedy or super-awkward (zany!) situations. Unfortunately, Shore would jump on that bandwagon and run his career into the ground with multiple crap-fests after this became popular.
