Very fun mix of comedy and mystery, a la Agatha Christie. Also, we can enjoy the great chemistry among Allen and Keaton.

Thank you Angelica Houston exposition Hitchcock dump for me at the end. Woodsy Allen and Diane Keaton chemistry forever. I can’t imagine any of this playing out in Annie Hall, also I wouldn’t marry my kids so what do I know.

Woody does Hitchcock and does it EXCELLENTLY! I am seriously blown away by this film. Not only is it hilarious - And it truly is, Allen zings off one-liners like crazy and his knack for slapstick is clearly still there - but it also has a great plot with twists that had me shouting and enough suspense to rival Rear Window. I don't know how anyone who likes both Hitch and Woody could dislike this movie. "Ted sees himself as Rick in Casablanca; I see him more as Peter Lorre." (two times)

In the world of self-casting, Woody Allen proves that he is just as awkward and self-indulgent as M Night, just not as funny.

Very fun and innately amusing. The plot can get quite tricky towards the end, but it's fun to keep up with it and it has the right level of intrigue to keep the viewer guessing. At the centre of the film is the relationship between the couple, which (although is unpretentious and reasonably conflict-less) seems authentic and makes the film all the more enjoyable to watch.

Very funny and the mystery is well written. Even though the anxiety gets to be a little too much at times the film is a lot of fun.

it begins a little slow, but in the last half hour picks up fairly well. for the most part woody allen did a bad job seperating himself from every other comedy maker out there, although you could tell it was a woody allen movie. just not what i expected to see from him.

Allen curiously uses long shots and handheld camera to pay homage to mistery classics he loves -- the climax happens in Houses's old theater showing one of these movies while images reflect on multiple mirrors. Mistery itself barely matters, as this works more as a liberal fantasy of an old couple trying to get a shot of adrenaline so they can feel more alive and a little less paranoid and intelectual -- truly a paperback story shot by Allen's elegant approach.

Although often said to be one of Woody Allen's funnier, but less comedies, this is an absolute gem full of great performances, especially by Diane Keaton, Alan Alda and Anjelica Huston. The chemistry between Keaton and Allen was definitely still there and the one-liners come thick and fast even if the plot developments are rather implausible under scrutiny.

I had to take some points off for the uninspired ending, and there were a few glaring but forgivable script-level continuity problems, but other than that this is a very fun ride. It's really funny, pulls you in, good acting, and it's nice that the characters and their relationships are much more believable than you would get in a non-Woody-Allen comedy, though not necessarily fresh; by '93 Allen was noticeably recycling his stock archetypes.

A slight film from Allen but an entertaining one; Woody's chemistry with Keaton is delightful to watch, his one-liners are as cunningly smart as ever and the simple, Agatha Christie-esque mystery is compelling enough. The film was also surprisingly well shot, especially the final confrontation behind the cinema screen -it seems that Allen had become enamored with hand-held camerawork in the early 90s and the picture is all the better for it.

Allen and Keaton masterfully bring their nervous energy to solve a mysterious crime with predictable but nonetheless hilarious results. Hardly an original premise for a film, but few could execute the screwball delight quite like Allen (maybe Bogdanovich and a few select others).

Good movie. Woody attacking a hotel maid with a lamp is a very funny visual. Jerry Adler rules and it's too bad he was never in anything before the 1990s. Wendell Pierce's extremely brief appearance is more shocking than Zach Braff's.

I hope one day Allen works with Keaton again because this is the last reminder of how great their on-screen chemistry is. This is also my last Woody Allen film, so the completionist in me is happy about my irrelevant achievement, but the thought that I could never see a new Woody Allen film without waiting for another one in theaters kind of makes me sad. Thankfully the guy is a machine and cranks a movie out every year. God bless him.

Kind of harkens back to his earlier more slapstick work. Has his usual marriage strife in it but like the rest of the film it's done nice and light. The use of handheld shots is great.

A good thriller. Director Allen handles the plot so efficiently that he has a lot of time left for character and humor. Allen and Keaton are still great together, and Alda and Huston add richness to the mix.

It's a typical Woody Allen film of a couple experiencing relationship issues with the twist of placing it into a murder/mystery plot. The mixture of the two makes for some truly engaging and really funny scenes (the elevator/the tape recorder) even if the experiment never feels that significant as a whole. If one day you can't decide whether you want to watch a mystery film or a comedy then this has got you covered.

This movie 'aint all that. I liked the first bit when we were more than a little convinced that Dianne Keaton was just imagining the whole thing as a kind of escape. But then the murder mystery goes into full gear, and it just gets stupid. The more we became bogged down in the mechanics of the mystery and distracted from the characters, the less I liked this movie.

Say what you will about Woody, but the guy's a top-notch filmmaker. Here's another excellent screenplay (granted with some help this time) that starts out mundane and by the end becomes edge-of-your-seat material. It's funny, it's tense, it's mysterious; Allen knows what he's doing, even if this was during his era of exploring shaky-cam cinematography. Another great from the great.

SPOILER WARNING! The first half or so when there is doubt about if the murder really happened or it's all a conjecture made up by the overactive imagination of bored middle-aged NYer, the movie is decent still. But when the movie starts to give clues the murder is real, all the interesting ambiguity goes away and it becomes a mediocre murder mystery. The comedy is so-so, mostly consisting of Allen himself inserting his typical lines.

Hilarious to the point of stomach ache, cramps and happy tears, and a great mystery as well which makes it a more mixed genre film than most other Allen-films. Having said that, I felt a bit disappointed about the end, the idea with the art cinema probably worked out on paper, but it felt flat to watch. And for the record, Alan Alda is fenomenal and underrated.

Probably the most manic film of Allen's I've ever seen. The dialogue is machine-gun rapid (especially when Keaton is talking, but Allen eventually catches up), and the central mystery continually tops itself to the point of absurdity. Very, very fun. A few observations: 1) Not one, but two Sopranos actors here! 2) Cool homage to The Lady from Shanghai at the end. 3) Am I to believe Woody Allen would drink fucking Coors Light?

Solid Woody flick. As always Allen's chemistry with Keaton is excellent. Alda and Huston provide good support too. The screenplay is as expected also; fluid, smart and funny, even if in the first third or so some of the jokes feel a little shoehorned in. Admittedly it's not Allen's prettiest movie or his most effective, but the mystery is fun and chuckles are regular.

It's quite something to realize that Woody Allen isn't actually any funnier than I am, at least not in comparison to how hilarious I remember finding this as a pre-teen (definitively proving that, contrary to popular opinion, Allen is not only safe but probably even at his best when left around children).

"Manhattan Murder Mystery" is an homage to the old mystery films of the 40s and 50s; Alfred Hitchcock would most certainly be proud. This isn't one of Allen's classic comedies, but it's certainly close. It's often forgotten in a conversation about great Woody Allen films, but I usually remind people of its existence.

Woody's most "Hollywood" movie has some fine directorial flourishes, including a helicopter shot and some hat-tipping to film noir and Hitchcock. Unfortunately, the script could have used a little tightening, especially in surrounding the details of the murder in question.

A murder mystery that starts interesting but ends up being a bit of a mess; and a nice light Woody Allen -comedy with Diane Keaton leading the way. Hand held camera work feels a bit out of place.
