A comet has reduced 98% of the Earth's population to cayenne pepper, and the other 2% to extras from the Thriller video. You, and two ditzy Valley girls are the only normal people left in existence. What do you do? A) hotfoot it down to the local radio station and do sit-ups. B) drink 30 cans of Pepsi Free because it is, well, free. C) save Anthony Michael Hall's evil clone from a cadre of lethargic scientists. D) all of the above while jamming to a cheap cover of "Girls Just Want to Have Fun"

Despite a fun premise and an over-abundance of 80's cheese, this post-apocalyptic/"zombie" movie is surprisingly dull. While it has the occasional moment or scene of being this sort of 80's cult classic gem, too much of the movie just feels flat. Although certainly a watchable enough B-movie, the movie may shine best just as an 80's time capsule of sorts.

A rather likeable and quirky little 80s number, which despite its shortcomings retains a level of charm, mainly from the two lead female characters. It's not quite funny or shocking enough to make it a cult classic, nor robust enough to qualify as "proper" horror or sci-fi, but might be worth a look.

Despite an occasional lack of narrative momentum & completely failing to explain exactly why some people are affected by the dust & others aren't, this is a nice surprise, mostly because the protagonists (2 sisters & a Latino) are highly unusual, especially for the time period. And although they might superficially be dubbed "valley girls" the script thankfully makes them more than easily dismissed Valley-speak caricatures. It's the B-movie apocalypse through the eyes of teen girls.

Obviously, this film influenced Joss Whedon in creating Buffy the Vampire Slayer's horror/comedy. Still, it's a disservice to expect Valley Girl meets Dawn of the Dead. The best parts of the movie involve capturing an 80's suburban girl in a post-apocalyptic setting. But the troubled production fails at logical storytelling and world-building--especially with the comet, zombies, and the evil science cult. Marginal recommendation for the teeny-bopper bubble gum fun it represents.

Better than it looks. Yes, both the soundtrack, the dialogue and the cold war subtext scream mid-80s cheese, but it's actually a pretty decent lighthearted post-apocalyptic story with female protagonists who kick ass and lots of clever little twists. Not much in the way of zombies, unfortunately, but there's one or two decent scenes.

(Rewatch. Kelli Maroney all day.) Great setup and it has a likeable cast, especially Beltran. Unfortunately the villains don't deliver, either in the form of the zombies or the Dharma-initiative evil scientists. I could watch the girls hang out in post-apocalyptic '80s LA all day so it really went downhill when it became nighttime. Fav scene: shopping montage.

Better than it should be but a slow story and very little action leave it lacking...

This movie screams 80's: neon all over the place, legwarmers, and cheeseball pop songs. The one decent tune (a soundalike cover of "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun") is reserved for the most famous scene: the mall. It's one of those scenes that demonstrates the exuberant consumerist glee of having a shopping center to run amok in. There's nothing terrible about this movie, but there's nothing great about it either. It's a silly, fun flick that's easy to watch. Maroney deserves special notice

By now, I've passed the point of "Why do I do this to myself?" and have set up residence in the town of "Why am I enjoying this?". Perhaps the most quintessentially 80ies horror movie ever, complete with vapid characters, awful music, predictable plot, almost no effects to speak of and just... neon... fucking... everywhere. Note to self: Stop talking to Mary Woronov in movies. First of all, she knows she was in Death Race 2000 and second, she can't hear you. It's getting uncomfortable.

Lackluster zombie movie that simply fails to provide, there's simply not enough zombies in it, seriously you see less than ten. It has the means to be a good zombie movie, but simply fails on delivering. It's a worthy watch because of it's semi-cult status, but it's also evident why it doesn't make zombie top ten lists.

A surprisingly witty script ensures that this light-hearted B-movie is a consistently enjoyable romp, as two valley girls battle radiation-ravaged zombies to often hilarious effect. A good deal more action and gore however would have gone a long way towards establishing it as a true cult classic.

A comet obliterates the majority of the world's population at once and infects the few survivors with a spacebug that turns them into homicidal freaks. A couple of ditzy Valley girls have to survive in this brave new world. The story is kinda funny in places but there should've been more zombie things, and there's very little action or gore. This flick is so painfully 80's that it has a shopping spree montage scored with "Girls Just Want to Have Fun".

Good despite itself, really. It's very light on action, special effects or acting chops, and it almost completely fails to be the genre potluck it wants to be (it's a football team that runs back a kick return, then loses by thirty points), but there's still a sort of undeniably fun and 80s feel to everything. The plot is actually really interesting, and the fact that the female protagonists are depicted as people rather than mother/whore/bitch/bimbo archetypes is still refreshing.

Totally in love with the neon colours and blood-red skies but despite the lovely slick 80s trash packaging, just too tame, cornball and lacking in enough solid exploitive thrills to stand out from the pack. The valley-girl-shopping-mall-shootout-with-uzis set to 'Girls Just Want To Have Fun' sounds incredible on paper but falls flat on screen.

It's an 80s end of the world film with two valley girls as leads, and it's so much better than it has any right to be. The acting may not be great, but the characters are good enough to make it work and narrative unfolds naturally but still holds a handful of fun surprises.

Underwhelming as a zombie movie, but totally endearing as a valley girl movie full of idle hormones and hi-fi stereo equipment awash in pinks and purples.

This is one of my favorite post-apocalyptic movies. A guilty pleasure, sure. I mean, one of the main leads in the movie tries to find her dream-man by his high-score on an arcade game (which beat out "her" high score). Far fetched, but a fun 90 minutes.

A comet turns people is zombie-like sadistic savages in this enjoyable campy 80s cult movie. What set this apart that the two lead survivors are teenage sisters. Unfortunate the zombie action is very very limited, otherwise this would have been even more entertaining.

I feel a little weird liking it so much. Because almost all of what it has or does on its own is way on the surface. It reproduces and satirizes clichés and tropes (or maybe even created them??), and they're all ones that I like. It's like having a type, and then meeting someone who's doing a caricature of that type, and you can see it's a caricature, but you're still attracted to them, cause...well, it's your type.

Here we have everything to hate for the 80s, especially that awful clothes and hair, that horrible music with synthesisers, neon lights, polaroids. This is total silliness but still fun to watch. Now, what is next? Let's populate that uninhabited world more... we need to cross-mate and even incest. Hector the lucky man

Top badass moment? When the whole burden of civilisation has fallen upon you, it's good to see that the Green Cross Code Man's word still counts for something. After all, remember what he turned into. How the once mighty can fall... Even more badass is the fact that the traffic lights are still working so long after 99.9% of the world's population has died. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

Very enjoyable & solid performances by Maroney & Stewart on top of a very fun premise & a few bits of clever humor here & there cannot save what's ultimately an extremely misguided, nonsensical plot paired with messy dialogue & a universe that can never figure out its own rules and never really tries to. A bizarre ending, bizarre antagonists, a jumbled structure & a very inconsistent tone all blend to create a sadly underwhelming end result. It should have been much better, but sadly it's not.

BlurayRip RARBG.

Kind of cool but often fairly awkward post-apocalyptic movie that has some camp value but probably too many ideas for its own good at times. The plot can get a bit muddled and none of the stars are particularly likable. It's an entertaining enough campy/B style movie, though.
