Chris Evans seems doomed to play attractive, charming characters, as it seems he's incapable of disguising his immense coolness. That's weird. I just accidentally squeezed the mouse so hard it exploded.

Using echoes of THE VERDICT and A CIVIL ACTION, this gripping legal drama attempts a character study of a self-destructive shyster (Evans, in an eye-opener of a performance), set against the backdrop of America's corrupt medical industry. Both of these fascinating story threads would be enough for a movie each and herein lies the problem: both threads get a somewhat short shrift in their exploration, though the Kassen brothers are to be admired for squeezing so much into a 90 min running time.

Compelling story made bizarrely dull by bland performances and script and some odd/bad directing.

irony like this cant be manufactured, this kind of stuff always finds its way from reality to film and always makes me roll my eyes. i'll give it that evans was pretty decent, and the whole safety syringe case was interesting, but this movie wasn't anything more than watchable.

somewhat sobering & inspiring because of the character's sacrifices

This is one of those rare examples in which Chris Evans gets to show that he can carry a movie and not rely on his looks or his physicality. It's an ultimately tragic story, but the storytelling is a little formulaic and perhaps even slightly underdeveloped.

The movie is a failure although the subject it points out is crucial.

The ending is a bit of a downer, but there are some genuinely entertaining moments, like Evans prepping his arguments in front of a group of druggies and homies.

The most downbeat, grungy-looking John Grisham film ever.
