The ending of the last film suggested there was no more story to tell & so it is. This does initially manage to carve out yet another rung of human-ape relations & provides one of the series' better metaphors for race relations (re: the rules surrounding the N-word), but after that, it's at least an excruciatingly long hour of well telegraphed & unimpressive confrontations. Given what the series has done before the climax is still uncertain, but it's taken far too long to get there.

I'm confused about this: it took 12 years for the Earth to go from the society in Conquest to what we see in the this and then it just stayed that same fucking way for 2000 years with no development or social change? They changed everything in a decade and then it just stayed that way forever? Gorillas being assholes but still part of the tribe and everything? Only humans forgot to talk at some point? That's one effective revolution. Also how often to real apes die from falling out of trees?

One of the worst of the series as a film, but the social commentary is very interesting.

This is a well-made movie. Not the best in the series, but as sequels go, it works pretty well as a concept movie.

An even bigger snorefest than the second 70s Apes movie. I'm amazed this series didn't continue because it still made money even though the budget continues to shrink (8 times its investment per Wikipedia). Due to its weird premise, it always needs a star to hang onto and McDowall is sleepwalking through this role now. I suppose it just seems like there's no good ideas to mine in the Ape future and they already went back into the past before.

The best thing about this is John Huston dressed as an ape tellin a children's story.

The worst of the original five films by a mile, it basically exists to reinforce the inferior amended ending of Conquest. I want to know how they persuaded John Huston to be in this and put on an orangutan costume.

The lowest point of the franchise. The budget is clearly low, the acting fairly bad, the photography and overall direction mediocre and the tempo slow. The duration might be small but a lot of scenes are longer than they should be and that just goes to show how sketchy this film is. Moreover, the philosophical questions that rendered the 1968 original a weighty classic are herein degraded to simplistic shallowness. It might not be an abomination but it's pretty boring all in all.

Little to recommend beyond monkeys and stuff blowing up. Script is full of only cardboard cut outs with little reason or motivation left. That characters would actually justify their actions is furthermost from this film's mind. Its only redemption, ironically, is its Hollywood ending.

That this movie was given a theatrical release surprises me. The decline in FX/makeup quality from the last film continues, and is completely unforgivable this time. Unlike Conquest... this one has nothing else to offer. No politics, no humor, no pathos, no Montalban, no moral-- nothin'. The TV series was actually much better, and that show stunk.

For the final instalment on the POTA series J. Lee Thompson does a fine job (for what this is) on a low budget. I had this episode as a comic book when I was a kid and loved it. Still do. Of course, one may wonder where did the director's brilliance displayed on "Guns of Navarone" or "Cape Fear" went but that's a different issue.

Easily the worst of the original 5 movies, yet I appreciate it for what it is. It is very straightforward and it brings the original series to a close. I appreciate that they brought the mutants back and brought everything home with a relatively satisfying conclusion. Despite not being great, it is worth watching in my opinion and if you enjoyed the series up to this point you won't be disappointed.

A few decades afters the previous movie human have destroyed most of the world in a nuclear war and Caesar lives and rules in a small society in which apes and humans live together (but not equally). The budget by now is very low and that starts to show in the lack of extras and production design. Still I liked how this society was depicted and it was pretty entertaining.

Not unwatchable, but neither the premise or the setting or the themes feel as well developed as the last couple films. I respect them trying to do a big final battle war sequence with an obviously shoestring budget lol; an attempt was made.

The fifth and final Apes movie is certainly the weakest. Fans of the series will like how this cleverly dovetails into the beginning of the first movie but a slow first hour and obviously low budget soon take their toll.

The silliest entry in the series. Made on a shoestring and it shows. Still mildly entertaining, but as it's meant to close the circle on the APES story, you know exactly how it's going to turn out.

The first movie is great, and the rest in the saga all have some nice part and then the most of them are from bad to decent. Sadly I don't remember what was that in this one... I think it wasn't more than 5 minutes idea. The rest is quite bad, has lack of originallity, and just a bit entertaining. Whatever, this is the worst Planet of the Apes from original saga.

It's clearly not actually very good! The budget, even for 1973 was clearly pathetic and much of this last original 'Apes' installment looks terribly cheap. The screenplay is a curious one too? It starts okay, with some good dialogue but slowly descends into idiocy. But despite the short runtime, undeveloped but promising plot, and curious decline in quality towards the end, I still enjoyed the final fling of the original 'Ape' movies. It's just so charming, and somehow stupidly enjoyable!

I thought the costumes for the previous two films were bad.. This is plastic-fantastic. This manages to combine every mistake made in the previous film with some new ones. This last installment in the series is also the worst. The writing is constantly atrocious and the plot holes are gaping. At least all the other sequels added some sort of inventive idea, although executed in a horrible manner. This should be avoided altogether. I honestly didn't think it could get much worse after Conquest.

The final chapter in this series ends with a bit of a whimper. You get the realization that by the apes that they have the same ill-fated tendencies of the humans but it is done surrounded by a lackluster battle with its lackluster budget showing.
