Not even Bill Murray can save this.

While not very FDR-eqsue Bill Murray does an admirable job here in what feels like an extended episode abandoned by the BBC ten years ago. The main cast with Linney, West and Colman are fairly good but there's not much else to recommend. Once you Wiki the story you learn it's almost completely made up but purports to be based on Daisy's diary. Only the Texas Chainsaw Massacres of the world can get away from a claim like that. When looked at as pure fiction it's entertaining enough for cable TV.

The private conversations between Roosevelt and King George are compelling as hell. Same goes for the conversations between the King and Queen. The rest of the film is... less compelling.

Good performances elevate the film. The plot ends up being more about Linney's character's affair with FDR then getting the King of England to eat a hot dog so Americans wouldn't think they are pompous and we could help them fight the nazis.

Confused and confusing, slow and boring. With a better script could have been decent.

Bill Murray is excellent in this film with his portrayal of president FDR. However the script is not very interesting. There are a few interesting moments but not a whole lot happens during the movie. I recommend this one only to hardcore Bill Murray fans.

I enjoyed everyone in this movie except Daisy. That's not to say Linney didn't try damn hard, she just didn't have much to work with.

The trailer for this movie was really misleading, 1/3 of it was really boring, 1/3 was funny, and 1/3 was really awkward. Bill Murray, Samuel West, and Olivia Colman were delightful, but the next day, I forgot I had even seen it. After months of waiting for this to come out, I was sorely disappointed.

An odd film, a kind of historical comedy-drama, but nonetheless enjoyable due to the performances of Linney, Murray and Colman.

Strangely written and often poorly acted, this film toys with the FDR legacy without merit.

Wow. Bill Murray as a president sure is disappointing.

Murry shows he can actually do something besides droll, first in a long time, if ever. Everything is squarely in place in this one but unfortunately it's an historical piece so it won't go far at the box--even though it looks like it's the public that likes it so far and not the critics, which would appear to take it out of contention for an Oscar. Go figure.

A reduction of grand people down to the level of little ones, it gives some insight into how a king and a president might behave away from the public eye. A likable miniature rather than a grand landscape.

This is a story about a Presidential affair. Laura Linney is President FDR's distant cousin, she meets up with FDR and have a tawdry love affair. If that doesn't disturb you then the scene in the meadow really will. I'm not sure what they were trying to accomplish with this film other than paint FDR in a very strange light. The best part of this film was the visit from the King and Queen. Then this felt like a sequel to A King's Speech. Oh Bertie, I missed you!

It seems that I disagree with almost everyone about this one (hence the shocking PSI of 37). I loved this--VERY well-written, full of interesting performances (Bill Murray is astonishingly good as FDR, and Laura Linney is her usual superb), and manages to balance the different stories it tells perfectly. Every character is fleshed out just enough, and all is thoughtfully observed. A quiet, beautiful gem of a movie.

Wow, what a boring movie and a waste of such talent. It doesn't feel like anything really happens and part of it is like a remake of The King's Speech but from the U.S. perspective.

Just seems to have no focus or purpose. There are positives; the photography is beautiful & Murray, Coleman & West are all supurb. There it ends. The film is put together in a very sloppy manner. About halfway through your wondering what the point of telling the story from Daisy's point of view is & why the affair story is getting in the way of the political/cultural story? Then by the end you wonder why the royal visit and politics got in the way of a movie about an affair? A confused movie.
