Perl Oder Pica

As well as being an unabashedly Luxembourgish film, Perl oder Pica is many films in one, not all of them successes. As a coming-of-age story, it's clunky; as a mystery, it's uncompelling. However, it does present an interesting perspective on local history and politics, and the different strands of the story are tied together pleasingly in an effective climax. The film has a good cast and uniquely quirky European voice, which in some way makes up for a lack of narrative cohesion and drive.
