Charming. I found it refreshing that the plot developed over the course of a span of years, as opposed to being limited to a predictable will-they-won't-they-oh-of-course-they-will formula. Obviously, this is a piece of fluff... but I liked it anyway. Oh, and by the way Rachel McAdams strips a little bit and Margot Robbie is even more stunning. So there. This is sort of a guy-flick, too, you see?

Starts with a great, funny, and interesting first act, but after that, this movie's just sort of... there. Stuff happens, but it never really leads to anything. It's like listening to an 8 year old telling you about his day. Add to that the fact that this movie could have ended at least 5 times before it actually does, which makes it feel like an even longer movie than it already is, and there you have one pretty forgettable, even disappointing movie.

The most casual use of time travel I've seen. Easily avoided what could've been a tired gimmick and actually made for a wonderful story about making the choice to smile and take it all in each day. Bill Nighy killed this performance, obviously enjoying his surroundings throughout the film. I cried slightly and called my pops afterwards for a nice conversation. This will get many re watches from me as I entirely love the message and delivery. I hope others can relate to a film as I did this one.

Think of Groundhog Day. Now take away all the cleverness and originality, replace Bill Murray with someone with no personality, cobble together a string of embarrassingly unfunny scenes and lots of vomit-inducing sentimentality and you'll end up with this abortion.

A little heavy handed with the 'live for the day' motif. About Time has a few sweet moments and few genuinely funny ones; unfortunately they are accompanied by those that are equally as creepy or dull. Hollander and Nighy are brilliant in their supporting roles, but the two leads, even with their chemistry, are a shade too beige. Overall, this film isn't as funny as Love Actually or as charming as Notting Hill, but more mellow, tempered and flawed, though still moderately enjoyable.

Domhnall Gleeson was a surprisingly good leading man in this fun but silly story. Rachel McAdams was lovely in her role despite her frumpy hair cuts & unflattering dresses. She is a remarkable beauty and had a playful fun charm in her role. Bill Nighy gave a memorable performance. Lydia Wilson was also good. The premise was unconvincing, a few plotholes, and they failed to do anything brilliant, but it was lighthearted, enjoyable to watch & was quite humorous at times. A good date movie.

I liked it quite a bit. I thought it'd be a bit of a sappy romance movie, when it's really just about relationships in general and how much time we invest in them. The leads are thoroughly convincing, and Bill Nighy is just such a charm. It's very whimsical, somewhat profound movie and the time traveling aspect never boggs it down. Watch it for the leads and the message.

A romance this is not, unless between a man and his life. The plot lumbers clumsily at times, and you wonder when the central conflict will manifest. Then the end sneaks up on you, and you realize you've been expecting the wrong kind of movie. Perhaps writing a plot simply "as it happens" is not the sharpest cinematic device, but then, your perception of the movie changes along with Tim's. Don't expect a rom-com. This is a day in the life of a life.

Another romantic comedy from Curtis who has an ability to make a movie in one of the most copy/paste genres feel just as effective as if you had never seen one before. Maybe it's because he already set the bar so high with "Love Actually," or maybe it's because the lead here isn't nearly as charming as Hugh Grant, but this one just isn't as good, in spite of an excellent supporting performance by Nighy.

Not a chick flick. Not even a romantic comedy, really. It's more of an old-school, whimsical fantasy about love and family and parenthood and opportunity and responsibility. I was dreading it, but it's actually extremely sure-handed and affable and charming. Lots to like about it for sure, including Gleeson's exceptional lead performance.

It's very watchable but the time travelling thing is inconsistent and raises a lot of problems that simply aren't addressed. The love story is bad and uninteresting and most characters were really bland. The humour didn't always work, but it worked for me most of the time. It's passable as entertainment but not much more. Honestly I was hoping for something to go terribly wrong but it never happened. In fact, did any of the people in this film have any problems at all except for his sister?

I already don't know if I could quote anything from it or anything like that, but it is sweet and likable and good-natured and well-acted enough for a lazy Sunday viewing, particularly if you're a bit of a time travel nerd like myself. Rachel McAdams' character is pretty thinly drawn the entire movie, though. Nighy does fine work.

It starts off alright, but descends into a habit of breaking its own rules and seeming completely disinterested in its own time travel mechanic - it almost seems like an afterthought. Also lacks any kind of dramatic arc. The characters are alright, and the chemistry between them and relatively well-written dialog makes the film bearable. Domhnall Gleeson is a pleasure. A lot worse than similar Rachel McAdams film The Time Traveler's Wife in some areas, and a lot better in others.

About Time is for those who want a two-hour escape from the problems of the real world, as it contains no problems or conflict of its own. For anyone wanting a compelling or convincing story, it falls flat, but for an unabashedly sincere romance, I suppose it does its job. It's funny and sweet and really hard to get too worked up about. It has good actors in a simple, fluffy love story. If this is your type of thing, you'll love it. If you have an ounce of cynicism in your veins, skip it.

The lack of focus on the technical aspects of time travel is a breath of fresh air. I liked this better than Love Actually. The characters were all charming and the movie even acknowledges that once you enter a relationship and have kids, you lose touch with your old friends. No reliance on made up conflicts with Rachel McAdams (one of the cutest characters ever in looks and wardrobe). Gleeson had great development. Music! Fav scenes: first date running through London; wedding; picking dresses.

If I could travel back in time I would watch The Time Traveller's Wife instead. As usual, all the frustrations of a Curtis film abound - a thin veneer of sweetness belies a lack of emotional maturity. Not only does this movie break its own time travel rules, the questionable morality of the protagonist goes completely unchecked (indeed, it's basically applauded). There's a point where he gets to use his power for real good and he decides to be selfish instead. 'Fuck you got mine' writ large.

It tries to do too much and feels unfocused, but at least it does those things pretty well. When it tries to be comedy it's pretty funny, when it tries to be heartfelt it mostly succeeds, the lead romance is easy to root for, and the time travel is nice little twist. As a whole it's rather fun to watch and sweet without being facile, but it doesn't have much depth despite some rough attempts at doing so.

A nice feelgood romance movie with a pleasant cast. Almost perfect in the first half, and then Curtis decided to break his own rules regarding time travel, leading me to confusion, and the film down a different path. The second half plot, about his father, was tender and affecting in its own right, but made Rachel McAdams look like a spare part. Bit of a Frankenstein job of two 1-hour movies. Felt like typical Curtis mainstream romcom material, but thankfully not as saccharine as previous ones.

Tim and Mary hop in the sack--repeatedly--very early in their relationship. They move in together not long after that. And their actions once again reinforce our culture's boundary-free mores when it comes to physical intimacy. Throw in some f- and s-words and more than 30 misuses of God's name, and all those achingly tender moments elsewhere start to feel achingly sullied as well. (pluggedin.com)

There's a section in Groundhog Day where Bill Murray tries to woo Andie McDowell by memorizing facts about her, parroting her ideas back to her and playing the scene further and further without making mistakes. Groundhog Day and The Butterfly Effect gets the Richard Curtis treatment... and it works quite well. Gleeson is a good match for the ever so lovely McAdams (thank goodness she replaced Zooey Deschanel). Nighy is doing a great job as well as the father. It's far from the most girly of Curtis' films (it's more a drama than a rom-com), so us guys can watch it. Especially with McAdams and Margot Robbie who are both easy on the eyes, we have an excuse. I loved the fathers advice; I'll keep it mind.

Nighy is great in his small role and Gleeson is easy to root for. I see why he got the Star Wars 7 gig. But I had a huge problem with the always shifting, nebulous "rules" for Gleeson's time-traveling character. They seemed completely arbitrary and subject to change should the story back itself into a corner that only a BS "because time travel" could remove it. At least they had the good sense to roll out a literal chalkboard to explain "Parallel 1985" in "Back to the Future 2".

Such a sucker for Curtis' rom-coms. They're the only films of the genre I seek out. Watching his characters always feels like visiting great friends. Even the assholes are loveable! (especially?) Don't overthink the time travel device -- the film's message is more about taking in all the small moments that make up a day and a life. It's not really about time travel at all. It's about time. And time watching this film is time well spent!

It was cute and lively, pleasant to watch. However, making a character driven movie based on one dimensional characters might not be the best idea. The actors did their best to save it, and luckily the core plot was cute enough that it carried the movie into kinda okay territory. It has a lot of dark and creepy connotations when it comes to the the main character's decisions, and they avoid all of that. Time travel in movies is always tricky, and it is in this one. If you think too much about it then it kind of falls apart, but the movie doesn't really focus too much on it. Honestly, for a romantic comedy type movie, it doesn't even focus much on the romance aspect. It is more of a movie about the importance of family, decisions, and what we do with the time we have. Curtis can't resist a few urges to tread over the line into maudlin sentimentality, but it's actually a charming and sweet movie for most of its runtime. The denouement pumps the well a little too hard for waterworks (as does the score). Still, it's an easy enough romance to root for ("Time Rapist" undertones aside), and it balances a dry British wit with actual emotion.

The trick with this one is just to relax, enjoy and not to turn on your deconstructive mind. Of course it's sentimental, centered around white middle class people, has quite static characters and proposes the traditional things of life, but hey, it's Richard Curtis. It's probably his weakest work, yet I found myself enjoying it so much. It's fun to experience, even if at times it's a bit too slow. It makes you shed a couple of tears and call your loved ones. Exactly as it looks on the trailer. Sweet and enjoyable. Not too corny, actually.

Life-affirmingly hokey. Totally charming.

An all around ... pleasant movie. Nothing special, yet achieves exactly what it sets out to do.

Groundhog Day 2. And isn't it odd that Rachel McAdams is playing yet another love interest of a man who is able to travel in time? I find that truly hard to believe. That in itself is like Groundhog Day 2.

Beautifully filmed and unabashedly sincere, About Time finds director Richard Curtis at his most sentimental.

This is a rom-com. This is about upperclass people without a lot of serious problems. This is Rachel McAdams, who plays a polite, clinical love-interest without major weaknesses. This is about finding "true love", wedding-toasts, children and - well - time travel (that leads to a bunch of logical problems of the plot). I liked McAdams (which is maybe the biggest surprise), I liked the naturalistic, pure touch of the dialogs, I liked some of the humor... weird.
