Strangeland

I will grant that Dee Snider isn't going to win any acting awards...ever. That being said, this movie wasn't as bad as people make it out to be. It definitely could have been a lot better, but it tackles the whole "modern primitive shock value" horror genre niche pretty well. I'd recommend that someone watch it.

Movies like these(and their dirty nu-metal freakshow stuff) always bring a weird comfort given my age. The people that think this is like interesting are probably the most annoying people alive

Snider actually has some charm and horror movie instinct but the plot is so messy nothing really works.

Legendary singer-songwriter Dee Snider's "Strangeland" is a rather average, and dated, torture horror film brought down even more by some clunky dialogue, shaky acting, a derivative plot and mediocre character development. Yet it remains mildly engaging, Snider himself is suitably menacing and actually provides the movie's best performance, the soundtrack is very strong and some of the - unfortunately rarely fully realized - themes (e.g. subcultures, ritual pain, mob psychology) are intriguing.

Kind of lost to time and for good reason really. It’s almost a precursor to Saw, with everything that is awful about the first one (the numetal grime and ugliness and the kind of faux social commentary) without the tight story that makes Saw so intriguing. If you’re going to stigmatize mental illness, like a lot of horror movies do, at least make a great movie with it! I don’t think I need to hear from or see Dee Snider ever again.

Infamous Mr. Twisted Sister Snider makes a less-than-Dee-lightful big-screen debut with this eponymous heavy-metal horror. Sort of an imagination-challenged _Hellraiser_ variation minus the latter's supernatural angle. Snider crams the screen with some legitimately squirm-inducing torture tableaux, but not even these crowd-pleasing, over-the-top terror elements can compensate for the film's sorry structure, countless lapses in basic genre-movie logic, and a plot stretched thinner than Snider

First half is horrifyingly bad filmmaking, the second half is quite an improvement - when this takes a turn for the better and involves mob-mentality, crazy self-righteous "Christians", responsibilities from doing nothing - but overall this is an interesting concept let down a lot by script, an awful lead-character and a crap ending. *Preview*: #14#, popcorn, story, actresses.

It is amazing! One of my favorites!

Not so bad for what it is, one of those horror movies authored by a washed-up Hard-Rocker. A lot of it is corny but it contains some disturbing torture porn, which was not yet hip in 1998. Maybe if I re-watched it today it wouldn't seem as unusual but back when I did it was a guilty pleasure.

Almost the feature-film version of sadist porn.
