Toad Road

This is why I don't advise growing up in rural PA.

~Almost~ successfully explores the perennial theme of young people being duped by the benefits of "transcendental" drug experiences. The narrative structure is actually pretty clever, but some dialogue and poor characterization leaves a lot to be desired. I'm not sure if the overuse of the word "like" was some kind of attempt at cinema-verite, but good god, like, can you kids just shut the fuck up? I've hung out with a lot of uneducated burnouts and even they don't say it that much.

This is genuinely not terrible. Worth a watch, it has some interesting visuals and while the music is pretty bad, it stops affecting you as much once the movie gets past a certain point.

Sucks as a straight up horror movie. Works as an unintentionally scary look into the pseudo-relationships of American youth and the excessive drug use to fill that void.

Toad Road is about an urban legend that there are a bunch of pathways that lead to hell in the middle of a forest. In reality, however; if you'd like to go to hell, just tie yourself to a chair and put this piece of shit on repeat.

I don't think I've ever said "what the hell is this crap?" more times in the space of the 15 minutes I allowed this tripe to invade my life
