This movie has so many great actors. Not all of them have big parts but just their involvement make the movie that much better. I mean seriously: Will Smith, Gene Hackman, Jon Voight, Jason Robards, Gabriel Byrne, to name a few.

A decent action/thriller with some unfortunate "zoom, zoom, enhance, rotate 180 degrees" type elements. Will Smith isn't bad, and of course you can always depend on Gene Hackman.

I'm a sucker for "wrongly accused" plots. "Enhancing," and, worse, rotating, can be forgiven due to the presence of Gene Hackman and decent action sequences.

Will Smith (in the only decent thing he's ever done) glues this to the late nineties, but so much else - not exclusive to the riveting scowls of Voight and Hackman - harks back to the brainy anti-establishment thrillers of the 1970s. I can't speak much for its plausibility, but it's definitely underrated; well-devised, suspenseful entertainment.

I have not seen this film in many years, but I recall (I've seen it a few times) an almost overwhelming sense of paranoia and victimisation. It really is unintentionally (or perhaps it was intentional?) prescient as regards the American State out of control, particularly in terms of surveillance, in the 21st Century.

pretty decent late 90's thriller with Will Smith and Gene hackman; I like the whole 'government can/is tracking you' theme that's prevalent in the film and is more poingent now than it was back in 98.

EOTS plays so well today because Marconi's script may as well be describing our post 9-11 world of increased surveillance rather than the world of the late 90's. Smith gives one of his better performances as a lawyer who becomes unwittingly embroiled in a murder conspiracy and is hunted by the NSA using the latest high tech equipment. Hackman adds a touch of class to the proceedings, and while the plot becomes too far fetched in the final act, Scott's direction remains engaging and focused.

I found this to be pretty good, mainly thanks to the conflicting duo of Smith and Hackman which works surprisngly well. It's nothing show-stoppingly brilliant, but it's a solid enough thriller with some particuarly good action scenes dotted around. The whole issue over international security is an interesting thought, but the film never really develops this beyond an insinuated state of the real world. There's not much to fault, it's just an above average if slightly forgettable production.

This movie holds up surprisingly well for being over 20 years old. While there is a moment or two that are a little too sci-fi, most of it is actually pretty realistic to the world we live in today, aside from the lower resolution screens. There are a few visual choices that were weird, but otherwise, great movie. Will Smith and Gene Hackman are great, and there are some memorable smaller roles as well. Love this movie.

While there is no doubt that in some ways the picture of surveillance technology outlined here is indeed exaggerated, this should not really be understood as meaning that the surveillance powers of the American government are not as great as depicted here so much as that they are of a different character.

For a 90's movie it's more prescient than you'd imagine. It feverishly showed government/corporate surveillance so well that Rand Paul called it his favorite film. As always, Tony Scott elevates an action premise to be the best thing it can be. And here he repurposed The Conversation's paranoia so inventively I'm amazed Film Bros don't appreciate it more. It's cool to see Smith & Hackman's interactions, the spy thrills, and the final Mexican standoff. And that last shot sends you home thinking.

An above average thriller. Will Smith is quite good and honestly he's a decent actor when he's not typecast into his Fresh Prince-archetype. Gene Hackman is quite good as well, not to mention an excellent casting choice with a few nods to his stellar role in Coppola's The Conversation. While this isn't really high-brow stuff it does raise the question about personal privacy being violated for the sake of "security" of the state. It's interesting to watch now in the post 9/11 environment.

This is a movie I've always liked, but always leaves me wondering about how much privacy we really have and if our country could or ever has done this level of intrusion into life. While you could argue that the film is a bit stereotypical in places (ex. absurdly corrupt NSA official who does whatever he wants), it's a movie that keeps you on your toes and moves quickly. It's not revolutionary, but almost twenty years later the themes are even more of a concern today and the movie stands up.

Think of this as a cross between NORTH BY NORTHWEST and THE CONVERSATION (which Hackman is a paranoia film about tapping also starring Hackman, to which there are at least four homages to in ENEMY), but in the hands of morons. Somehow the comic mugging of the leads keeps the film watchable, but you'd virtually have to have a full-on mental meltdown to buy a plot this idiotic and situations this incredible.

(after repeat viewings) Plays like a modern, fast-paced hommage to Coppola’s The Conversation, which sort of explains Gene Hackman’s involvement in the 1st place, exploiting the public paranoia over unethical surveillance which proves incredibly timely today. Makes me miss Tony Scott even more, guy knew how to shoot a movie and use a freaking lens as opposed to the generation of filmmakers we’re stuck with today. And that cast, God, I miss the 90’s.

it's proficient as far as thrillers go, but very pedestrian and obvious. there's definitely an effect the film is going for and a way it wants us to feel, and it uses visual/auditory/editing manipulation to achieve that effect, which is immediately off-putting. also, the film feels extremely dated in 2014, since the technological/NSA sphere is completely different. though to be fair, that's not the film's fault, but the result of our rapid technological advancement. regardless though, just okay.

The score is really dreary and repetitive, and becomes oppressive after a while. For once, Will Smith isn't his usual goofy AWW HELL NAW self, but instead, he's incredibly flat. A moderately fun thriller. Smith is doing his usual thing. Hackman's presence and general character make it play like The Conversation stripped of its brain and fed through the Bruckheimer screenwriting machine. I want to talk about Jon Voight though, as his performance is extremely enjoyable with the knowledge that he really IS the awful neo-conservative villain he plays in movies. In real life, he just thinks he's the hero. It's the kind of lack of self-awareness you just can't help but love.

To be honest I spent the first bit of the movie looking forward to the inevitable scene where we'd see Regina King in the lingerie that Will Smith bought at the beginning. And then we saw it and it was kind of underwhelming. And then there was still an hour left and I knew there'd be no more lingerie scenes, so that pissed me off. The movie itself is stupid but tolerable if you eat enough popcorn. Consider it as a sci-fi and maybe most of the computer stuff won't appear so ludicrous.
