We’re revving up into awards season, and a number of regional critics associations have begun handing out their awards for 2008. Their picks are usually strong indicators for Oscar time… so let’s take a look at the films doing well in some of the already-announced awards.
Winner: Chicago, Los Angeles, Boston (tie)
Winner: London, Washington D.C., Boston (tie)
Among the group of cities we looked at, Wall-E and Slumdog Millionaire have the most honors. But is Oscar willing to bestow its award for Best Picture on either an animated flick, or a foreign one? It’s not typical, but perhaps this could be the year…
Winner: San Francisco, New York City
Winner: Las Vegas
Likewise, Milk and Frost/Nixon have been garnering wonderful reviews but the chances of either winning Best Picture have to be slim at best. Hollywood may be a festering cesspool of immoral liberalism, but the awards-givers usually don’t like to publicly celebrate that fact… (Crash over Brokeback, anyone?)
