My favourite musical since "Rocky Horror". The music numbers are just fantastic, the art direction is superb, the storyline is interesting, and there are great performances all round. I can't stand for the blatant feminism in it.. The whole "hey we killed all our husbands because they were annoying because of their gum-chewing habits but they totally deserved it because all men are swine" attitude displayed in some of the songs (pretty much just paraphrasing one of the songs here) I just can't stand, and it really doesn't matter if it's supposed to be sarcastic or not. Also it's quite horridly miscast, with only John C. Reilly seeming fit for his role. Richard Gere is horrid, as is Zeta-Jones to some extent. Wow, guess I really do hate this film.
