Everyone already knows about the British flick which won the big prize in the USA, so today we’ll take a look at some of the other awards being handed out around the world…

Mexico’s top film prize was handed out recently to Lake Tahoe, a comedy about a teenager’s coming to grips with his father’s death. At Mexico’s event, Ariels are awarded instead of Oscars.

33 Scenes From Life was the big winner at 2009′s Eagles — Poland’s national film awards. Malgośka Szumowska’s drama is a heart wrenching tale about sickness, death and growing older.

Steve McQueen (not that one) brought to film the incredible story of Irish hunger striker Bobby Sands. Hunger, a harrowing look at the awful conditions for IRA prisoners in Northern Ireland’s infamous Maze Prison, took home this year’s Best Film honor at Ireland’s 6th annual awards show.
