DVD Report – April 14th

The Reader! The Spirit! The Caller!
The Oscar Attempt! The Hilariously Bad Comic Remake! The Film No One Saw or Cares About!

Ach… of all the films out this week on DVD, only The Reader managed to get better-than-average reviews, and… I don’t know. I didn’t see it in theaters and feel almost physically repelled by it. Yeah yeah, Kate Winslet is a truly remarkable actress and the Nazi atrocities can never be forgotten. But… is it wrong that I’d rather watch The Spirit?

The Reader is about love and how about how ill fate and illiteracy causes a kind German woman to move from a happy career as a tram conductor to the unhappy job of prison guard at a Nazi Germany concentration camp. A young boy she befriends and eventually falls in love with, later becomes a law student and witnesses her sacrifice her life for other prison guards but feels incapable of helping her.
