DVD Report – July 28th

Not much in the way of quality in this week’s batch of films new to DVD. Except of course for Dragonball: Evolution, which reaches Shakespearean heights of drama with inspiring, well-developed characters and a gripping, surprising plot. Incredible stuff… do we have an early front-runner for Best Picture?

Introducing the New Film List Page

For a long time, we’ve been collecting your ideas and suggestions for the film list page — one of the most frequently visited areas on Criticker — and we’re happy to introduce a completely new iteration of it.

We re-designed the new film list page (now called Film Database in the menu) from the top-down, always keeping in mind your suggestions and ideas, of which we’ve incorporated as many as possible. The number of ways to filter and sort films is greatly enhanced. Here are examples of some of the new things you can do:

· Match All Genres – For example, films which are sci-fi and comedy
· Filter by PopularitySomewhat well-known animation
· By FilmmakerChristopher Lee’s Horror Films
· Order by # RankingsThe most frequently ranked films of 1952
· Order by YearBest Picture Oscar (collection), ordered by year
· Order by Date Ranked – Your list of films, in the order you ranked them
· Indicate Mini-ReviewsDisplay icons indicating which of mpowell’s scores have mini-reviews
· Save Filters – If you’ve got a filter you’d like to use over again, you can easily save it in our database.

These are just the most drastic changes to the page — there are a lot of other subtle improvements as well. It’s much more well-designed and functional.

We’re pretty confident that you’re going to like the changes but, as always with new enhancements at poor understaffed Criticker, there are likely to be errors. Please report any problems you might find to our support email address. And if you come up with clever or interesting filters, be sure to let us know in the comments!
