Shameless Hollywood Rip-Offs

Enjoy a laugh, or a sigh, with this list of ridiculously shameless Hollywood rip-offs. I wonder how the crew behind Snakes on a Train felt about themselves when they completed their masterpiece. Did they throw a wrap party to celebrate their shamelessness? Or did they just go home and drink themselves to sleep, alone and with a hollow pit in their hearts?

New Feature – Ignoring Users, Ctd.

By popular demand, we’ve now extended the Ignore functionality to include forums. So, ignoring users will remove them from:

1) Your PSI Calculation
2) The list of mini-reviews and ratings for a film
3) Your TCIs
4) The forum — you won’t see any of their posts.

We’d encourage use of this function when someone is really annoying you in the forums — as opposed to writing a flaming response.

Still in work is functionality which will allow you to choose the specific areas in which you want to ignore users… so you could remove them from PSI calculation, for example, while still seeing their mini-reviews and forum posts.

DVD Report – November 25th

Uwe Boll, you mad genius! Far Cry is your swan song. Your Citizen Kane. Don’t let the derision of the Criticker community get you down! That hilariously low average tier is merely a reflection of popular ignorance. You know as well as I that a film based on a videogame, starring Til Schweiger and featuring genetically modified soldiers is good by default. Screw ‘em all.

Forum Watch: What is your earliest movie memory?

User Hopscotch recently started a really interesting topic in the Criticker Forums, asking others what their earliest memory of cinema is.

Welcome to cinema, child

Bambi, King Kong, Dunstin Checks In all pop up, as does The Never Ending Story. There are some funny memories being shared, such as 3-year old LordofDance having to be escorted out of the theater when King Kong fell from the skyscraper.

I’ve done some thinking about this, although I have a terrible memory when it comes to such things. The first movie I remember clearly was The Last Unicorn, which was surprisingly scary for a kid’s flick, and had a great ending.

Feel like sharing? Head over the forums and join the discussion!

DVD Report – October 27th

Hey Woody! We recognize you there underneath Larry David’s skin. And Criticker users weren’t too impressed by your return to NYC in Whatever Works. In fact, none of this week’s new releases amanaged to win everyone over, though Il Divo came close. It’s the story of former Italian Prime Minister Giulio Andreotti. (Personally, I don’t plan on letting the bad reviews prevent me from seeing Orphan.)

Ice Age: Dawn of the DinosaursAverage Tier 5.31
The sub zero heroes are back. Scrat is still trying to nab the ever elusive nut, while maybe finding true love. Manny and Ellie await the birth of their mini-mammoth. DVD Report – September 1st

An exceptionally strong week of new films on DVD. I’m pretty sure this is the first time that we’ve ever been able to designate 3 new movies as Criticker Picks. All five films featured this week earned better-than-average reviews, and Earth, Sin Nombre and Sugar were particularly impressive.

This week, you’re all going to click on those Amazon links with your credit cards in hand. Right?
