Similar premise to Saw movies, except main character put himself through nasty stuff to get huge amount of money. The ride is fun, not for the faint of heart though. Where this movie falls flat (like all similar movies) is at finale; the explanation is unbelievably bad, and the attempt at moral (or lack there of) is just stupid.
I'm not a fan of asian horror in general but this was surprisingly good, especially the ending which makes complete sense and gives the entire film a deeper meaning. Very interesting concept, there wasn't a boring minute.
Quite a competent film. While predictable, it's able to maintain a pretty good sense of tension with a surprising amount of laughs sprinkled throughout. The third act gets pretty indulgent in its own plot twists that aren't all that clever. Could be described as a more fun and better acted Saw.
If you thought Funny Games was too blatant, wait till you see this. Wholly disregarding any subtlely both visually and ideologically, Sakveerakul's film is all over the place thematically, heavily exaggerated and overly theatrical. The initial message on materialism and voyeurism is worthy but by the 13th challenge, the film loses itself in indulgence, introducing a new thematic thread and cringeworthy psychological elements and showing a poor grasp of sociological and psychological issues.
