Summary: Reclusive Dr. Zorba has died and left his eerie mansion to his penniless nephew Cyrus Zorba and his family. Along with the house, the Zorba family has also inherited the occultist's collection of 12 ghosts, who can only be seen through Zorba's special goggles. The family members, their lives at risk upon the discovery that Dr. Zorba's fortune lies hidden somewhere in the house, receive aid from unexpected quarters as the threat to their lives is revealed. Goofy fun, especially with the "illusion-o" glasses. It's definitely very campy and about as scary as puppy in a bedsheet, but it's never all that dull (well, maybe during the opening of the oddly edited seance scene - but the appearance of the ghost there is unintentionally hilarious).
It's amusing to see how far a gimmick can take you. Admittedly I didn't have a special pair of glasses, but the gimmick doesn't go far enough for them to be of any real use. Everything else is just procedural and routine in the horror genre.
Unlike HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL, there aren't many genuine scares in this. It revolves around a gimmick (unsurprisingly) with a pair of glasses: look through the red if you want to see the ghosts, blue if you don't. It's an amusing trick and the film is goofy fun, but if you're looking for chills, you'll be disappointed. No one seems to be taking it too seriously. The film isn't quite campy enough or original enough or anything enough to leave much of an impression, but it has a few charms.
So I basicly watched this because of my highly inappropriate luv for director Castle and I was sorely disappointed. It's okay as a time waster and you have to admire the brilliantly moronic gimmick but all in all this movie put way too much emphasis on attempted humour and repulsive child acting.
