Summary: Renowned horror novelist Mike Enslin (Cusack) only believes what he can see with his own two eyes. After a string of bestsellers discrediting paranormal events in the most infamous haunted houses and graveyards around the world, he scoffs at the concept of an afterlife. Enslin's phantom-free run of long and lonely nights is about to change forever when he checks into suite 1408 of the notorious Dolphin Hotel for his latest project, "Ten Nights in Haunted Hotel Rooms." Has some eye catching visuals, hardly any gore and an interesting plot. It's not a horror classic or even close but at a time when a lot of movies were just torture porn, this one sticks out as a return to form for horror.

Worlds better than I expected. Cusack is great and Jackson lays it on so thick you can't help but fall for the room's mystique. Respect to anyone that can turn a good film out of King's novels. He's shooting a paltry five out of sixty-three (may not be accurate count).

1408, the best King adaptation since, well, The Shining, is about as mind-churning and bizarrely startling an American horror picture as you will see with a PG-13 slapped on it. Cusack is great here in a mostly one-man show. I'm willing to venture that this will be the best scare-fest of the year.
