Summary: Renowned horror novelist Mike Enslin (Cusack) only believes what he can see with his own two eyes. After a string of bestsellers discrediting paranormal events in the most infamous haunted houses and graveyards around the world, he scoffs at the concept of an afterlife. Very good and convincing performance by John Cusack, Samuel L. Jackson only had a small roll in the film, but he did fine as usual. The story itself wasn't bad, perhaps a bit predictable at times. There aren't a lot of thrills, just creepy and suspensful at times. Don't expect a scary horror film that makes you sleep with the lights on at night, and it's not a deep psychological film either. Watch it for what it is and enjoy John Cusack's performance, don't go in with too high expectations.

A mediocre adaptation of a short story that probably shouldn't have been adapted in the first place. Do we need to make every Stephen King story, no matter how short, into a feature film? Everything that makes the short story good is lost by fleshing it out into 90 minutes of plot. That doesn't mean there aren't good performances, effects, and the like, but the entire story is tacked onto the original concept haphazardly and I wound up sincerely not caring about the film's resolution.

It did a good job of being intense and thrilling in a more active sense than just visually, which puts it up on a higher tier than a lot of other "horror" movies.
