Summary: A unique cinematic journey, "2001: A Space Odyssey" travels across enormous distances of both space and time. The story it tells is on the one hand about the collective adventure of human life on and off this planet. But it is also about something lying beyond the bounds of humanity, something lying in the true realms of the mysterious. (by djross)
Epic, flawed, visionary, messy & Kubrickian.
This is the movie to end all movies in Ambition and just pure chutzpah. You may hate but still believe it is brilliant.
I think in the past I have been a little over critical of this film because of my dislike for the ending. I think Kubrick films have a strange quality of being an entirely different expirence at different times in your life. After a recent rewatching of 2001 I have to change my score from a 70 to a 95. 2001 really is a near perfect film.
You don't have to understand it to love it. The cinematography is spellbinding in itself, but for those who try to interpret this esoteric film, so much philosophical depth can be be found. This is art.
As a child of the technology age, this movie is boring to me. But I do realize that impact it made on those that saw it on its release. And in that context, it truly is amazing.
A rather complex, shock-and-awe-inspiring movie by Kubrick. I reckon that the silent periods, background sound and perfect pictures throughout this masterpiece makes it even more mind-blowing. 100, undoubtedly.
A center piece in the medium of film making. Subliminal imagery everywhere, all telling music, multiple passages of decoding and a rare indulgence in the use of space and time.
