Could have been much better. But it shoots itself in the foot way too much.

Proof that special effects alone can't carry a whole damn movie.

Once Woody Harrelson shows up, this turns from overly earnest grandstanding into hilarity in HAM CITY. Jumping limos through office buildings, jumping subways over Cessnas, jumping RVs over fiery chasms, munching on pickles. It all lasts about 25 minutes, then Woody meets his gleeful demise at the blunt end of a sizable chunk of national parkland, collects his check and goes home, while Cusack & Co. are stuck with 2 more awfully somber hours to fill. -10 points for not jumping the cruise liner.

Pretty much running away from near death encounters for so long you want the survivors to die. Special effects are the only thing going for it.

2012's narrative is super-banal and so are its special effects.

Effects are amazing, but a terrible script, terrible acting, everything is terrible. He accepts these points, only because the amazing effects

would have been better, but the president of the United states sacrifices himself!!! come ooon, even in a movie, good acting by cusack as usual.

I think the intention was to make a deliberate 'so bad it's good' film. The alternative, that every one of the hundreds of people involved was lobotomized at birth, doesn't bear thinking about. The junk science a grade-schooler would laugh at, the terrible physics (the world's largest volcano exploding at the speed of a clapped-out camper van), every line of dialogue dripping with cliché and cod-philosophy, mushy sentimentality - it's all here. Not recommended if you're sober or you like movies.
