Great 'zombie' film with a great soundtrack and great direction. Cast is good, well acted, a great performance by Cillian Murphy in particular. There's a great fitting atmosphere throughout the film which makes it feel even more authentic. Gripping journey of the protagonist from start to finish, a highly recommended, thrilling watch!
Quite different to your American zombie movie as it focus more on survival rather than a zombie apocalypse. Lead by a great cast, in particular Naomie Harris who plays a bad-ass Selena. The zombies aren't even zombies, more-so humans infected with rage, which is a nice little twist on the genre. It is fairly slow-paced at times but tends to get quite exciting towards the end with a few shocks in there. Overall an impressive zombie flick from the Brits that also delivered an impressive sequel!
I liked the first half, in spite of the frantic editing. It is more intelligent and human than most zombie movies, and the shots of a silent, devastated London are effective. But when the band of survivors reaches Manchester and what's left of the army, the film degenerates into the usual save-the-women-from-a-fate-worse-than-death plot that was trite even in ye old days of D.W.Griffith--in this case punctuated by raging zombies, a howling rainstorm and flashes of lightning. Ho hum.
Stands up to multiple viewings. I am, in fact, watching it again. Has perfect scenes such as the long one with Murphy's character walking the empty streets of London. And the one where they see the wild horses in the field... And that next-to-last scene gets me every time... and I cry, no matter how many times I've seen it. And that music, ohh that music!!!
Reminds us all that we must give up smoking and continue our daily workouts because when the zombie invasion hits, the undead may be a tad more agile than Romero has led us to believe.
