Summary: It's International Elvis Week in Las Vegas, where the strip is flooded by a sea of King wannabes decked out in jumpsuits and sideburns. But five of the impersonators swaggering into the Riviera Hotel and Casino are toting heavy weaponry in their guitar cases. It's the heist of a lifetime, orchestrated by ex-con Michael (Russell) and his cunning former cellmate, Murphy (Costner). (Warner Brothers)
I can get behind a ridiculous action film, but this has several major flaws. For one, the woman accompanying Kurt Russell is an annoying, double-crossing bitch, and the audience wants to see her get her comeuppance, not triumph with the hero in the end. Also, the film is too in love with what a badass middle-aged, balding Costner is supposed to be, and it comes across as ridiculous, especially since he's not that funny nor cool in the villain role. Has some good scenes, but overall, mediocre.
"Saddled by a lame-duck director, this could have been a guilty pleasure classic, but Russell's return to the Elvis fold (he played the King in John Carpenter's excellent biopic) won't leave you all shook up."
Potentially clever idea degenerates into an overlong, bloody (and bloody awful) bore. All the violence is mindless; all the plot developments are brainless.
The best movie of Kevin Costner. Apart from that it could've been a lot better, without the phony acting of Courtney Cox and fucking lame romance scenes. Either you got to do it like True Romance or not do it at all. Those stupid, bad guy turns out to be a dad when he sees a woman crying (or can't control his dick), scenes really ruins the movie. AND this movie deserved a better soundtrack. Seriously man, it is Elvis. I would love to see a Tarantino or Guy Ritchie version.
