+ highly recommended

it has a good acting, but the dialogues, the situations experienced by the couple and the soundtrack are too much indie for my taste and sometimes so silly (like the park scene). And the ending is pretty lame, unnecessary joke.

one thing: is it just me or is summer a total bitch? she's like an entirely unlikable clementine kruczynski. deschanel is as usual extremely quirky it verges on cringeworthy. JGL put on a sweet performance, maybe a little too much so, but generally a funny, touching piece, with lovely supporting characters. marc webb's music video expertise really shines here - it's like a 90-minute belle & sebastian jam. also a lovely representation of LA at its best. i'd expect to watch this more than once.

this film is as annoying as hell with all its complex and definitely not effective back and forth editing, an absurd phoniness that it's fallen into while trying to get away from clichés and irritating over-coincidences even for a film. overrated.

Very lovely funny little flick that many can relate to

An un-romantic not-so-funny romantic comedy ?

It is so annoyingly cute about the smartness of middle-class young white people in love that one quickly realizes it is only about that -- not love nor passion as everyone experiences it.

This movie got a lot of hype last year, it was flashy and fun, but it reminded me too much of High Fidelity which I enjoyed a lot more. Overall it's a good movie, but man, fuck that last line.

Excellent soundtrack, some laugh moments, a cute girl starring, funnay characters, some clever lines. All good. But, not a classic, somehow worse than High Fidelity, which is an all time favorite of mine.

(500) Days of Summer actually did get off to quite a good start. It was funny, gave depth to its characters, and was quite entertaining. Then, about 10 minutes after it opens, it loses all of its steam. It tries to regain it later on, but doesn't, only giving intermittent laughs. The characters aren't all that interesting, and neither is their relationship. The story is told in an inventive way, yet still stays easy to follow. It's just not a story that is fun or entertaining to watch.
