The funny thing is, this sort of incorporates all the elements of a perfect movie (a fragmented, non-linear dysfunctional relationship movie starring Zooey Deschanel?), and gets it so, so completely wrong in every possible way. Alas, a two-hour version of the Paris scenes in Reprise doesn't exist yet...

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a very dressed man. Also IKEA. And wonderful dancing. So that's two thumbs up and one product placement hazard. Good times.

You look back on a failed relationship, and the memories start from the beginning. You remember the meet-cute, the awkward courtship, the silly, sexy first kiss. But memories don't always finish out in a linear fashion. Before long you juxtapose your best moments with your worst. The time your joke killed and the time it died. Listen, that's life. You can't annotate something both so simple and complex: sometimes you get together, sometimes you break up, and sometimes you misread The Graduate.

If you discount Tom's "hilariously" ironic job, the trite narration, the advice-dispensing preteen, the comic relief friends who exist only as foils to the main character, the scene music name-dropping, the punchline ending, and the fact that the movie holds your hands through the chronology leaps... it's actually kind of good, maybe. With Deschanel's presence and similar subject matter, mainly causes a greater appreciation for All the Real Girls.

Very slow start, picks up a little after the first thirty minutes. Still, pretty sappy stuff. Disappointing because there were some moments of genuinely imaginative cinematography scattered throughout the film, yet somehow they just end up lost in pointless and annoying dialog. The film probably would have been better with a lot less talking.

Takes all the conventions of a typical romcom - and of the current trend of indie flicks defined by their soundtracks - and turns them on their head. Not 100% perfect - the really smart little kid is one cliche that's an annoyance - but probably the best movie of its kind, and something about it won't get itself out of my head.

So overrated. 91 PSI? I can't believe the amount of people who fell for this film's poor disguise as something more an average rom-com. Deschanel is horrible, the ending is incredibly forced (with Summer reduced to nonsense), and most of it defies logic. "This is not a love story. It is a story about love." Dictionary: "Noun 1. love story - a story dealing with love." Yeah, that makes sense. Quirky for the sake of being different, brings nothing new to the table and is incredibly pretentious.

The story is great and the way it's told is phenomenal. It's not a chick-flick, nor does it try to be, it's the romantic comedy that everyone can enjoy, especially guys since most every guy has been through what Tom has and can relate to his character. As much as the film is romantic, it's also damn funny. It has one of the best dance scenes I've ever seen and another moment that will stick with me as hilarious genius for a long time to come.

One of the few watchable romantic comedy that I have seen off late. The acting of Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel is really good. The soudtrack of the movie is very well selected and fits well with the story line. Very well written script and a very good directed movie by Marc Webb. Really good story telling, a recommended movie for all.

There's a "I'm in love!" scene where the lead starts shaking hands and dancing with strangers and has an animated bird perch upon his finger. This summarizes how much this film tries to be off-beat and fails. Another example is the split screen reality vs expected presentation of a scene. Showing a wanted reality was done lovely in high-fidelity, but here it's confusing distracting uninformative or humorous... I'm not even bothered by summar being bogus, some people are. Its just so pretentious.

Gordon-Levitt is ridiculously talented. Granted, being the versatile half here is an easy feat; Deschanel annoys me. Enunciating on par with 'Team America' Matt Damon, she relies on a (for me, at least) non-existent charm. The good (expectation/reality gag, contrasts yielded from jumpy narration) outweighs the bad (dance, IKEA) and, if he at times comes off as smug (little girl gives sage advice, an oh-so-quirky narrator), the observant Webb refreshingly chooses an experiment over formula route.

Sometimes cute, often realistic, but lacking in much insight and having only a roughly tacked-on overall theme. Love story contrivances seem to stand out more when the story isn't taking the audience anywhere in particular.

There couldn't have been a better pairing than Godron-Levitt and Deschanel for this type of movie. Their romance at its peak is electric, and the fallout is pretty realistic. My favorite rom-com since Eternal Sunshine.

Creative way to splice movie, going back and forth between the 500 Days all this took place. While I have liked her before I sadly found Deschanel annoying in her role. Moretz has his funny moments with his cards (esp RosesRedVioletsBlueTwist). I found the end a little too cheesy. Why is Zooey there? I think it tried too hard to seperate itself from norm rom/com movies, and instead just got too weird. Although I will try to play the shouting in public game. And I missy Zooey from Elf.

I can't really describe my feelings about the movie. It was good, but...the fu*ked up ending ruined the experience. The structure was also a bit annoying and I don't like the overall message. But still...I don't regret watching it.

Very good movie that actually demonstrated the reality of courtship, It did so in a very original way and the scene with the split screen was really good. I believe this film would have been better had they taken the upbeat ending, it detracted from the reality of the movie because, it turned it into almost any other chick flick in which the protagonist ends happy or in a new relationship.

Gut-wrenchingly honest, it's a film that speaks to the expectations and realities of relationships. It tunes out the fantasies engrained in our minds of what 'love' is supposed to be from numerous pop songs, films, and greeting cards to see 'love' for what it really is: an indescribable feeling unique to each person. Love is not necessarily compatibility, or infatuation, or even sex, but a feeling and sentiment of shared certainty in a universe of its own in a world of uncertainty.

I would have liked it more had it not jumped around so much. It dared to be different than other romantic comedies, but knowing it was coming took a bit away.

Personally I thought this film was an accurate depiction of what relationships are these days. Tom wanted Summer, who was afraid of commitment, she hurt him in the end but it was really no ones fault. Levitt was perfect when showing the hurt and in the scene where he quit his job everything that was ever hurting Tom came to the forefront. The cast was perfect, the story was great, the ending was realistic. Perhaps the most emotional film of 09 that ends with a glimmer of hope. Perfection.

Other than the annoying little-sister character, there is a lot to like here. It doesn't end in a standard fashion, and the characters are a lot more human than you'd think. The presentation is great, and the movie does make you feel pretty good upon viewing.
