You either love or hate this film. It had my mind spinning with questions from the beginning, but steadily declined over time. As my questions were answered, the logic of the film became more and more flawed, and the ending was such an unbelievable disappointment that practically contradicts the rest of the story. I loved it in the beginning and hated it by the end.

Great visuals, but completely hollow.

Short and sweet :)

Acker creates an original fantasy world setting. One aspect of his technique is also very original: Normally the brows are used in animation to make the characters' eyes expressive, but here the pupils of the characters' eyes (which are actually shutters in lenses) dilate and contract instead. The weak point as usual with animation is that the substance is enslaved to the form. The story shows off the animation but has no other value. I'll probably skip the feature version of this.

Really more of a concept demo than a self-contained short film. However, the fantasy world it creates is plenty interesting, and communicating the story without words was a neat touch for how simple it was. The action scenes were above average, if nothing extraordinary because of budget limits. I did love that 9 wins through guile and trickery, not a heroic surge of strength. Overall, it's an entertaining work, and despite being more of a demo, the ending is very satisfying.

I usually like animated movies and the atmosphere of this one is something i like usually but i don't know, i guess the story didn't grab me at all

Maybe I should've watched the short before the feature length installment, but by comparison I found this to be little more than a clever set piece.

The focus here is most definitely on the animation rather than the plot, but it's so richly developed it's easy to immerse yourself for ten minutes or so in the well-realised action sequences and impressive visual and sound editing. If Acker can resist going down the Burtonesque 'quirk for quirk's sake' route, it's likely he'll be one to watch in the near future.

Inspired short in the waters of Burton and the like. Uninspired ending trims the memorability.

The full feature of this is going to be epic. This is some of the best animation I've seen.

Excellently creative little short, notable for some interesting character and environmental designs and an intriguing plotline. While generally being unique and surprisingly well crafted, hence its future adaptation into a feature length Burton production, the ending does let the short down slightly and seems to completely lack the kind of inspired creativity seen during the rest of the film. That's not to say that 9 leaves you with a bad taste though, it certainly does not. Quite interesting.

Not really bad, but not good either. The movie starts and then it's a serious of "go here, do this" with little background or reason. Sometimes I felt I was watching a video game. It's a pretty movie, for sure, but cliche and mostly forgettable.

Kind of boring, really. The visual style is unique, creative and quite cool, but when a ten-minute short fails to hold my attention, it doesn't speak well to its chances as a feature. I've heard the film doesn't have much of a plot. Considering the short, I can't say that surprises me. I love post-apocalyptic fiction, but this doesn't do much for me.
