As a viewing experience it's lean and flowing and entertaining to watch, if a bit slight and generally ridiculous. But underlying the somewhat exploitative horror comedy is a potent allegory about social reception of and expectations from art. It's significant that the director of this little movie that's more ambitious that it looks, went on to become the producer patriarch of New Hollywood.

A silly but enjoyable film from Roger Corman which nonetheless takes swipes at the perception of art and alternative beat culture at the time with some panache and wit.

Entertaining low budget horror comedy.

the whole beatnik thing is utterly laughable, as intended, yet this movie is horribly stupid anyway. i could have probably enjoyed this movie if i were under the influence of copious amounts of liquor.

"I read a summary and thought it was made recently then when I started watching it I thought it was old and then when I had been watching it for a while I reconsidered and thought it maybe was made recently" or "The greatest portrayal of an artist put on film."

Corman does a great job with the low budget with a clever premise, good pacing, and some nice macabre humor.

The reason we see Dick Miller in so many other movies

Mildly amusing. Feels like a rather silly episode of Twilight Zone.

A neat relic from the beatnik age. Like all of Corman's best, it's got dark humor, low-budget cheesy charm, and a lovable put-upon protagonist.

Although the idea of putting corpses into wax or clay as art has been done before, I liked this movie. I liked the main characters, mainly Dick Miller's character. This movie is also humorous in a black comedy sort of way. I recommend seeing this movie.
